The Steelers' first teams will get their most extensive look tonight when they play the Minnesota Vikings in Minneapolis. That's fine with Hines Ward, but he thinks somewhere along the line the NFL should reduce the amount of football its players must endure, either in the preseason or the offseason.
In the past, I've typically done this highly subjective and just-for-fun exercise with offensive players. Ben Roethlisberger , Heath Miller, Santonio Holmes , Hines Ward - all are players I have done projections for in year's past, mainly because they're the focal point of the offense. With all the excitement surrounding Lawrence Timmons right now, I thought it might be interesting to see how well...
The only thing that could make this better would be if a bus was running him over. Don't get me wrong, I don't wish the guy any harm or anything (except for the bus thing), but Ward's whining is starting to reach epic proportions. Antho Smith, a guy who seems to be only mildly interested [...]
Filed under: Steelers , NFL Media Watch On Saturday, the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette published a column by Gene Collier in which he lambasted Steelers safety Anthony Smith. Collier noted that Smith celebrated after a hard hit on teammate Hines Ward in practice, and he referred to Smith's behavior as "thuggery." Smith's teammates and coaches are not pleased with Collier's choice of words. Coach Mike Tomlin...
Filed under: Ravens , Steelers , AFC North Don't let the histrionics fool you; Bart Scott 's a smart dude. But he makes his leaving bringing down steroid-addled muscle-bound running backs and receivers so he has an image to uphold. And getting destroyed by the NFL's best blocking wideout -- who also happens to play for the hated Steelers -- doesn't do much for the perception that he's a badass Ravens...
Ravens linebacker Bart Scott leaves open the possibility that he will seek retribution against Steelers receiver Hines Ward for a pair of jarring blocks Ward delivered against him and safety Ed Reed last season.
Georgia and Alabama seem to always play classics in Tuscaloosa: the Barker-Zeier duel of 1994, Bennett's kick in 2002, and the overtime Dawgpile last year. The past few games in Athens, um, not so classic. In 1995, Bama spoiled Hines Ward's debut at quarterback 31-0 and in 2003 I think we injured every quarterback on Bama's roster in a decisive win. I hope this year's game is a Bulldog romp, but here...
There's no hiding it: The Steelers are Big Ben's team. Not Jerome Bettis' team or Alan Faneca's team or Hines Ward's team, but one that now relies on No. 7.
Royal asks, how would you rate my fantasy team? David Garrard Jon Kitna Ronnie Brown Earnest Graham Chester Taylor Randy Moss Braylon Edwards Hines Ward Donte’ Stallworth Jabar Gaffney Dallas Clark Benjamin Watson Rob Bironas New England Green Bay DR U: It looks as if you are in a deep league as your team on paper doesn’t necessarily look stacked. I think Garrard will be an efficient quarterback, and...
Ben Roethlisberger had an agenda this offseason. The 6′5″ quarterback was looking to sign a contract extension that would make him the highest paid player in Pittsburgh Steelers history. This would come to fruition in the first week of March, when the Steelers signed Roeth to an eight-year, $102 million dollar deal. [...]
Um, so I guess the Steelers were sold overnight, and new owner Stanley Druckenmiller has made a blockbuster deal to trade Hines Ward to the NBA's Orlando Magic for Rashard Lewis. Tradition is gone in Pittsburgh, and the new owner is taking the Tampa Bay Lightning-do-anything-approach to the front office. I've seen Hines play basketball, about 5 or 6 years ago at a Steelers vs. Faculty charity
Filed under: Steelers , AFC North , Pittsburgh With Hines Ward and Santonio Holmes set as the Steelers starters and Nate Washington and Limas Sweed set as the team's No. 3 and No. 4 receivers, one of the toughest battles during training camp will be for the fifth and likely final wide receiver spot. A lot of times jobs are said to be wide open, but in reality, there's a clear favorite who has to lose...
