The Colts cut two reserve quarterbacks on Saturday, a likely sign that Peyton Manning and backup Jim Sorgi are on the mend.

If the Indianapolis Colts' final roster cut is any indication, quarterbacks Peyton Manning and Jim Sorgi will be ready for next Sunday's regular-season opener against the Chicago Bears and also for the week of practice leading up to it.

Filed under: Colts , NFL Fans When the news broke in mid-July that Peyton Manning would be out 4-6 weeks after having knee surgery , the focus immediately turned to his backup, Jim Sorgi . The fifth-year pro out of Wisconsin seems perfectly capable of stalking the sidelines and feigning interest during the regular season, but anything more than mop-up duty is cause for alarm among the Colts faithful....

Filed under: Colts , AFC North , AFC South A couple of days ago, I wrote that Quinn Gray's horrible play against the Bills would probably cost him a job. He was competing with Jared Lorenzen to be the third-string quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts. Peyton Manning and Jim Sorgi have the top two spots nailed down. Despite his bad showing on Sunday, Gray got the starting nod last night against the...

Filed under: Colts , AFC South The new Lucas Oil Field looks awesome (anyone who has seen this thing as you head to downtown Indianapolis knows this). What happened during the building's opening tonight wasn't. Peyton Manning hasn't played all preseason after "minor" knee surgery and Jim Sorgi was benched due to a gimpy knee. What we had on Sunday night was a battle royale for the Colts third string...

Boy, was that boring. But hey, it's preseason. The Colts mailed this game in early, trotting out Jared Lorenzen as the "Starting" QB because Jim Sorgi hurt himself stepping off the bus. No, I'm not kidding. I'm starting to think the Colts are a little too cautious with the injuries. The positives are the special teams continued to look very good, despite all the injuries. And he run defense was especially...

INDIANAPOLIS - Peyton Manning proved Tuesday he can stand, walk and talk. Next question: Will the two-time league MVP start in the Colts' season opener? He might. Then again, he might not. If he doesn’t, former Badger Jim Sorgi is still the #2 quarterback on the Colts’ depth chart .

Peyton Manning conducts walk-through with offense Peyton conducted the walk-through today with the offense. Jim Sorgi was the #1 QB for much of the practice, but for the general walk-through stuff, Peyton was the guy. This seems to be yet another step to him possibly returning to practice next week. The link is to a Colts.com video where Tony Dungy discusses Manning leading the walk-through.

Filed under: Colts , AFC South This morning's whispers that Peyton Manning may not be ready to start the season opener means the door is open for Jim Sorgi to start at QB for the Colts' offensive show. Things should be ominous. Sorgi faced the vaunted (cough) Falcons defense Saturday night. His final line in two drives: 7-12, 67 yards. He led the team to three points. Hardly impressive, in fact, it's...

Just finished my first game of Madden 09. It was an exciting shootout, 7-0 over the Bears. The first 3 1/2 quarters of offense looked like they were coached by Mike Martz and QBed by Jim Sorgi (7.6 per completion 4 sacks, redzone INT), but a deep strike down the seam to Clark in the final minute led to a 5 yard Addai TD up the middle. INTs from Bob and Bethea (and using my "rewind" after Ugoh got...

During Saturday’s game between the Indianapolis Colts and Atlanta Falcons, it was a battle between two quarterbacks - one who is trying to hold onto a job as a backup and one who is a mere rookie trying to find his way. In this case, that would be the Colts’ Jim Sorgi and the [...]

ATLANTA — Jim Sorgi eased some concerns at quarterback for the Indianapolis Colts. With no apparent timetable on Peyton Manning's return from knee surgery, the Colts were relieved that Sorgi avoided critical mistakes in their 16-9 preseason victory over the Falcons on Saturday night.
