Commits? Yeah, We Got Commits

As Pfef brought up yesterday , the Buckeyes picked up commits from Duron Carter and Carlos Hyde over the weekend. But apparently Ohio State recruiting is a blink-and-you'll-miss-it sort of thing. While Pfef was busy breaking down the Carter and Hyde commitments, Kentucky DB Justin Green was busy committing to the Buckeyes. That was followed by commitments today from OH DB Bradley McDougald and PA...

Justin Green commits to Ohio State

U of L lost out on a chance to land a big-time prospect in its own backyard when Louisville Male speedster Justin Green committed to Ohio State late last night. Green had previously stated that he was hoping to take his recruitment slow, making Sunday's commitment a bit of a surprise. “After I got done talking to the coaches [Friday], I really wanted to make a commitment but I wanted to talk about...

Video about underground comix history book

This video, made in 2003, was produced to promote Rebel Visions: The Underground Comix Revolution 1963-1975 by Patrick Rosencrantz. The video has interviews with Gilbert Shelton, R. Crumb, Rick Griffin, Spain Rodriguez, Robert Williams and Justin Green. (I reviewed the hardback edition in 2003 for the LA Weekly) Fantagraphics has just released a revised and expanded paperback edition. Link...

GONE, JUST LIKE A TRAIN

Justin Green's show at SHAKE IT RECORDS has closed, but Joe Kuth posted some pictures so you can see what it was like. There are probably more cartoonists alive and working to day than ever before, but seldom if ever does one see work that sizzles with life and cerebration like Green's. What a treat for the eyes and spirit this show must have been in person.

JUSTIN GREEN EXHIBITION!

Anyone who knows anything knows that Justin Green is one of the greatest cartoonists our species has produced. R. Crumb, Bill Griffith, art spiegelman and innumerable other acknowledged masters hail him. His seminal autobiographical work Binky Brown Meets The Holy Virgin Mary is regarded by many, including yours truly, as the greatest single "comic book" ever created. As luck would have it there is...

Creator profile: Justin Green

Justin GreenUnderground legend Justin Green (Binky Brown) gets his due with a nice write-up in Cincinatti’s CityBeat, where an exhibition of his work will soon be shown: “A collision of sensibilities” is his description of the relationship between his upbringing as one of the initial baby boomers and the current generation's hyper sophisticated childhood. “The fact that [...]

Justin Green Exhibit

One of the first folks we wrote about here at the Library was Justin Green, the legendary underground cartoonist whom I had the pleasure of meeting when I worked at Barnes and Noble a few years back. Absolutely the highlight of my entire B&N experience! Here in Cincinnati where Mr. Green has continued to draw strips while practicing traditional sign-painting, a local music store, SHAKE IT RECORDS,...

Chronicle late in covering gay comics

Editor - It's great that The Chronicle has finally noticed lesbian and gay cartooning in the Bay Area ("Strip Tease," Friday). It's only been going on for at least 30 years. However, the article makes it seem as if I've credited Justin Green's Binky Brown...

Justin Green Sketchbook stolen

Have you seen this': I just received this email from Carol Tyler: . “Please spread the word: Justin had a sketchbook stolen - it was about half full, containing rough sketches and writings. He was giving a demonstration at the college where I teach [in Cincinnati] and someone walked off with it. It went missing on [...]

New Justin Green!

Here's a brand spanking new 4 page color comic strip, NIGHT AT THE CREATION MUSEUM, by legendary Underground cartoonist Justin Green (in collaboration with his award-winning wife Carol Tyler and Greg Martini). One of the seminal artists of the movement, Green is probably still best known for BINKY BROWN MEETS THE HOLY VIRGIN MARY. A few years back he settled in Cincinnati of all places and here at...
