First, Annika Sorenstam announced that 2008 would be her final year, and today world No. 1 women's tennis player Justine Henin announced her tennis playing days are over. Now, as most everyone is aware, things like this tend to happen in threes. That is why I am making a formal request to one of WorldGolf.com's...

I’ve been trying not to write this blog, but an inner voice keeps saying “Good Lord, man, stand up for yourself!” It sounds a little like that drill sergeant in Platoon, or my ex-wife. Did you happen to catch CBS’ Jimmy Roberts during the Players Championship , in his breathless report on how ex-PGA Tour Commissioner Deane Beman FINALLY came up with a great name for the closing three holes at the TPC?...

When I first saw the announcement, I thought it was a joke. But it's true: Annika Sorenstam is retiring from tournament golf at the end of this year. The New York Times reports: At a news conference at the Upper Montclair Country Club, where she will play Thursday through Sunday in the L.P.G.A.’s Sybase Classic, she calmly revealed her plans. There were no tears, no deep breaths and, she said, no regrets....
