THE FIRST SNOW FELL in our mountains early this morning. It snowed all day, a wet snow that’s not ideal for sledding but makes a dangerous snowball. Although winter doesn’t officially begin until December 21, snowfall and temperatures dipping into the 20s make me feel as if winter has arrived. It also signals the end of golf for some. When Corey Pavin stepped on to the first tee here yesterday and noticed he was not only playing Colin Montgomerie but also the Radio Two disc jockey Chris Evans he could well have shared a joke with himself. A reader says he thought (but wasn't totally sure) that he heard Paul Azinger say during Thursday's Presidents Cup broadcast that U.S. Ryder Cup captain Corey Pavin has not talked to him about the Ryder Cup. Did anyone else hear this?
