Confirmation came from all corners yesterday afternoon: Darren McCarty will make his return Friday night against the Bitter Blues. If you’re an out of market fan and you don’t have the NHL Network you’re, of course, screwed. If you’re a Blues fan contributing to the Aaron Downey is a coward conversation over at St. Louis Game Time, this will add a whole new dynamic to that enlightening...

Anti-Digger Bruce MacLeod says a vet's sitting tonite and Derek Meech is in the lineup. Oh...and he’ll be playing a wing. Meech will definitely play forward tonight, according to coach Mike Babcock. Why there’s a need for him up front isn't as clear. Aaron Downey will be in the lineup. So will Darren Helm. That means that one forward who played in Sunday's game in Columbus will be absent...

Quick update from practice: Defenseman Derek Meech is expected to play left wing on a line with Darren Helm and Aaron Downey tonight against the Columbus Blue Jackets at Joe Louis Arena. The Wings brought Helm up from Grand Rapids.

Last year, the Wings’ experiment with Brad Norton failed. This year, the Aaron Downey experiment seems to be working. On April 6th, 2006, the two met before either of them donned the Winged Wheel.
