from the CP via TSN, Goalie Dan Ellis, who almost single-handedly stole Game 5 with 52 saves in a 2-1 overtime loss in Detroit, says the Predators are used to the pressure. “We’re a desperate hockey team right now. We’ve been desperate the entire season. We just put ourselves right back in that same situation,” he said. “It’s a comfortable situation for us. “We’re back home where we have the...

The Wings got something of the statement game they were looking for last night, though you wouldn’t know it by the score. By a rough estimation, they controled the puck for 50 minutes of regulation in Game 5 and peppered Dan Ellis with 54 shots. The game wasn’t perfect, however. Some thoughts: … The Wings had the strong [...]

Niklas Kronwall had one thought, one plea, one prayer. As he watched his big red-headed teammate take off down the ice, there was only one thing Kronwall wanted: a goal. Johan Franzen delivered, pulling to the right, pausing, holding the puck just long enough to slip a backhand behind Dan Ellis, ending Game 5 1:49 into overtime with a 2-1 victory Friday night at Joe Louis Arena.

“We expect them to come out with an unbelievable effort next game,” goaltender Dan Ellis said. “Sometimes you wake up that sleeping giant, and they’re a team that has a lot of firepower, they’ve got a lot of veteran presence that really understands what it takes at this time of the season. We expect them to come out flying next game, as well we expect to give them that big push right back.”

from Ken Wiebe at Best of Seven, We’re not about to suggest a sweep is in the offing, but goalie Dan Ellis was the only reason the 3-1 game (including an empty-netter) was close. Having said that, without a pair of turnovers (one by Marek Zidlicky and the other by Shea Weber, which took a crazy bounce off the arm of a linesman and landed back into the defensive zone) the Predators were in position...

Having seen a lot of net-front monster Tomas Holmstrom earlier in the season and a good deal of Johan Franzen in March, Nashville goalie Dan Ellis is impressed. "Franzen, I think he's learned a lot from Holmstrom," Ellis said. "He's very effective in front of the net, if not he's even bigger than Tomas is. He does a great job there standing in front. He takes a beating and just keeps...

As Detroiters well know, hot playoff goalies can make for playoff nightmares. By now, Nashville goaltender Dan Ellis is not fooling anyone. Not after leading the NHL this season in save percentage at .924 and compiling six shutouts. Not after putting together the fifth-longest in-season scoreless streak in NHL history (233:39) during the last week of March.
