Here is a list of former USHLers who have signed contracts with pro teams. I'll try to keep this list up to date, so it will help keep track of former players going pro. Derek Whitmore (Waterloo/Lincoln) has signed with the Buffalo Sabres. Derek will most likely be assigned to Rochester of the AHL. Matt Clackson (Chicago) has signed with the Philadelphia Flyers. Matt has been sent to the Philadelphia...

Like I always say, Slap Shot is a documentary. I first read about former New Mexico Scorpion David Cornacchia’s high-flying antics in the Dallas Morning News (via my boss at Texas Monthly), but let's go with the local rag: Florida Everblades defenseman David Cornacchia (above) will continue to play with the team until a verdict [...]

Last night, fresh off a shoot out loss to the Florida Everblades (punny I know), Mississippi faced down the top team in the division, the Texas Wildcatters. Now, we're one of the few teams to hand them a loss, despite our Disney movie in the making playing ability. However, going into the third period, it did not look good at 1-6. Before I go any further I will state that I've only ever once

A minor league hockey player was arrested after allegedly slapping a flight attendant, head butting a passenger and exposing himself on an American Airlines flight from Toronto to Dallas. FBI agents arrested David Cornacchia on Thursday at Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport on a federal charge of interfering with a flight crew. Welcome to Friday Photo, a new feature where I share photos that I've taken with the world. Texas Wildcatters' number 59 Riley Emmerson jaws with the Florida Everblades bench during the first period of their game Sunday afternoon at Ford Arena. After a goal that brought the score to 2-0, the Wildcatters' Riley Emmerson and Florida's Brad Herauf drop the gloves. Riley Emmerson delivers the finishing...

Welcome to Friday Photo, a new feature where I share photos that I've taken with the world. Texas Wildcatters defensemen Mike Madill moves the puck down the rink during a second round playoff game against the Florida Everblades at Ford Arena on April 27, 2007. The Wildcatters lost the game 5-2 and ended up dropping the best-of-seven series four games to two. I wanted to get a hockey picture in this...

After winning the Stanley Cup last summer, the Hurricanes failed to qualify for the playoffs this season, joining an ignominious group of teams who have gone from Champs to chumps. Down on the farm, the Albany River Rats of the AHL made the playoffs, but were eliminated in the first round. Nothing to cheer about there. Further down the organizational ladder, things look much better. Tonight,

Tonight, two of the East's bubble teams will duke it out in the RBC Center for the privilege of keeping their playoff hopes alive. Florida's on Fire*, having earned 15 points in their last 10 games. They remain five points out of eighth place, and in order to determine their own fate, they pretty much need to run the table. If you've got the shells, build a statue to yourself down here
