GM George McPhee acknowledged that Michael Nylander cleared waivers this afternoon, but he declined to shed much more light on the awkward situation other than to hint that a deal could be in the works. Earlier in the day, Coach Bruce Boudreau said that Nylander will not be returning to the Caps. McPhee, though, stopped short of confirming that. "Some decisions have been made," McPhee said....

Photo by Ghost_Bear Tonight the Capitals came from behind to beat the Florida Panthers 7-4. With Alex Ovechkin and Mike Green among a slew of injured players, Mike Knuble put up four points to spark the win. The total tied his personal best, from Valentine's Day, 2003. Asked what it was like to be a leader on this team, Knuble calmly dismissed the assertion. "It's just one game," he said,...

Three games ago, Mike Knuble took a bad penalty in the third period. And two games ago, he was one of several veterans coach Bruce Boudreau wasn't happy with after a loss Wednesday in New Jersey. Well, Knuble followed up a strong performance Friday night in South Florida with a dominant one Saturday at Verizon Center. Knuble had two goals and four points in a 7-4 victory against the Florida Panthers....

Thanks in part to a slight lineup tweak by coach Bruce Boudreau, the Washington Capitals exploded for five third-period goals en route to a 7-4 victory against the Florida Panthers on Saturday night at Verizon Center. Mike Knuble and Tomas Fleischmann both had two goals, and Knuble had a four-point night as the Caps swept a home-and-home with the Panthers and won for the second time in three games...

Jose Theodore will be back between the pipes tonight against the Panthers, but the Caps will be without Mike Green and Jeff Schultz. Both defensemen were injured last night in the Caps' 4-1 win at Florida and are listed as day-to-day. Scott Clemmensen, meantime, will start for the Panthers. Coach Bruce Boudreau said he does not believe the injuries to Green (upper body) and Schultz (lower body) are...

Mark Giannotto checking in from a mostly empty Kettler Capitals Iceplex this morning... A groggy Bruce Boudreau just spoke with the media after arriving back into town from Florida at 2 a.m. First and foremost on his mind were the injuries suffered by defensemen Mike Green (upper body) and Jeff Schultz (lower body) during last night's 4-1 victory over Florida. Both Green and Schultz will be "game-time...

The Caps snapped a three game losing streak with a thorough 4-1 win tonight over the Panthers. But the story, once again, was the loss of key players to injury. Already without Alex Ovechkin, Mike Green and Jeff Schultz went down with upper and lower body injuries, respectively. Both are questionable for tomorrow's rematch between the Southeast Division rivals at Verizon Center. Something else to keep...

He told me on the way to the team bus that he hopes to play Saturday, but won't know whether he'll be able to until tomorrow morning. Jeff Schultz sustained a lower body injury in the second period and also did not return. He was spotted limping out of the visitors' dressing room here at BankAtlantic Center, an his status...

Based on the morning skate, it looks like Jose Theodore will get the nod in net tonight at BankAtlantic Center against the suddenly surging Panthers. There will also be a change on the Caps' blue line, with John Erskine coming out and Brian Pothier going back in. "He had three weeks off," Coach Bruce Boudreau said of Erskine. "I'm sure he's not 100-percent. Players want to play so bad,...
