Those are the words of Steve Yzerman in his Hockey Hall of Fame induction speech tonight, talking about watching Brian Leetch play in the 1994 playoffs (which Yzerman had plenty of time to watch after the expansion Sharks knocked off his Red Wings in Round 1). “You’re a New England guy,” Yzerman said to Leetch. “I know you know how big a thing that is to say.” Leetch...

It appears that the Calgary Flames finally have the right coach in Brent Sutter. One has to wonder why it took General Manager Darryl Suter so long to get the right man for the job. Two years ago Darryl brought in Mike Keenan, saving him from Hockey exile, but after yet another first rood playoff [...]

from Ethan J. Skolnick of the Sun-Sentinel, So this column won’t move many. And even for the 10,000 or so who still give a puck, there won’t be much that Sexton could say to persuade them that his Panthers will fare better than the Panthers of Bryan Murray or Rick Dudley or Mike Keenan or Jacques Martin, all names with more pizzazz whose teams petered out prior to the postseason. Nor did...

2008-09 finish: 5th in the West, first-round playoff exit to the Blackhawks. Who could have guessed that hiring Mike Keenan would turn out to be a lousy decision, destined to alienate players and fans alike? But everything will surely be better now for the New and Improved Flames–Now With 2X the Sutter Power as the Leading [...]

Jeremy Roenick, on of the game’s all-time greats, gives high-praise to Mike Keenan. “Mike Keenan was one of the craziest sons of bitches I’ve ever seen,” Roenick said to chuckles. “He scared me into adapting the way I play. As Part III of this tale opens, the Capitals have completed the 2006-2007 season in a way reminding what few fans they have left of the old saying about the Washington Senators that could be updated to reflect the Caps’ futility… “Washington… first in war, first in peace, last in the NHL East.” Although the Caps would tie the Flyers for the worst record in the NHL in...

When I listed the 20 players with the top Corsi Numbers in 2008/09, the name on the list that most surprised me was David Moss of the Calgary Flames. Moss ranks tenth in the league last year with a +343 Corsi. Moss is not a reasonable choice to be called the best player on his team, while any of the other top 20 players all might be (at least if you neglect other teammates who made the top 20). Moss...

from George Johnson of the Calgary Herald, The Sutter colonization of Calgary continues. Brent Sutter, to no one’s faint-dead-away surprise, will be unveiled today as the new head coach of the Flames. The intrinsic qualities he’ll bring to the job sound eerily familiar.
