Sens Get Set for Caps

Nothing new on those Hawks rumours yet today. I didn't see it myself but somebody emailed me late last night and said that the trade was very briefly listed on ESPN as being a done deal but was pulled shortly after. Still have to classify this whole story as nothing more than a rumour for now. I'll keep digging around today... Meanwhile, the Senators get set for a tough test tonight in the Washington...

Quick Wednesday Update

The Ottawa Senators were back on the ice today, the morning after a narrow victory over the rival Maple Leafs. The win gives the Sens 21 points on the season, one point back of the 8th place Lightning. Daniel Alfredsson, Anton Volchenkov and Chris Neil were all absent from practice this morning. Ottawa was hoping to have Volchenkov back on the ice with the team today but have decided to wait at least...

Rumour: Volchenkov Extension in the Works

First off a quick update from Senators practice this morning. Brent Wallace is reporting that Jason Spezza is on the ice but still is not expected to play tomorrow against Tampa. Mike Fisher was not on the ice with the team today. Jesse Winchester is expected to return to the club this weekend. Speaking with a couple different people the last couple of days and the indication I'm getting is that the...

Injury Update From the Sun

It's a good news bad news scenario for the Ottawa Senators on the injury front. The Ottawa Sun is reporting that Jason Spezza will likely sit out Thursday's game against the Tampa Bay Lightning. Clouston has classified Spezza as "doubtful" for the game against the Lightning. The good news is Anton Volchenkov. Sounds like the injury isn't as severe as they first thought and he will miss somewhere...

A Happy Halloween for the Sens

I've always hated any statement that begins with, "If the season were to end today..." The season doesn’t end today. It’s a flawed premise which makes it a flawed statement. So any person using that statement is a complete idiot. That being said…IF THE SEASON WERE TO END TODAY, THE SENS WOULD BE IN THE PLAYOFFS!!!! Right. We're 11 games in. Too early for parade planning....

Back at it in Tampa-Volchenkov Out, Lee In

( UPDATE 11:32 AM )- Brian Elliott will get the start in goal against the Lightning. The Senators may have picked up the W last night but word is they were extremely unhappy with the officiating, to the point where they considered filing an official complaint with the league. Had Ottawa lost the game in Florida you can bet we would be hearing a lot more about this today. Ottawa carried the play when...

Sens Dumbfounded By Preds

Really, on a busy day, the Senators’ 5-6 OT loss to the Preds best summed up like so, from the Ottawa Sun, So, just where does crazy stop and weird take over? ... Take Spezza, for instance. He’s supposed to be doubtful for the game with some kind of injury. All he does is go out and have a dominating performance with three assists, including an end-to-end rush to set up defenceman Anton...

Locking Up A-Train a Priority

The season is young but its becoming pretty obvious that Anton Volchenkov is poised to have the best season of his career. The 27 year old native of Moscow, Russia has been an absolute force on the Senators back end through the first seven games and is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season. The A-Train brings a rare blend of shot blocking ability combined with the ability...

Senators Host Islanders, Some Rookie

Early injuries continue, scoring struggles, and a departure, but first.. From the Ottawa Sun, “There are going to be nights where things are going his way and he’s allowed to use his skill in the offensive zone and there are going to be nights where he’s very frustrated where nothing happens for him,” said Senators assistant GM Tim Murray. “That’s biggest thing for...

Stalberg knocked out of Leaf game

Toronto Maple Leafs rookie Viktor Stalberg left Tuesday night's game against the Ottawa Senators after the first period. Stalberg didn't play the second period and was done for the night, said to be woozy, after taking a hard hit from Sens defenceman Anton Volchenkov.

How will it End?

( UPDATE- 7:57 PM )- Its quiet. Very quiet. Nothing new on the Sharks or the Wild since late this afternoon. By all accounts the Senators have gone into lockdown ,making it essentially impossible to get any information. I really gotta hand it to Bryan Murray on this one. He has done an amazing job keeping this thing under wraps but at some point the fans need to know whats going on. Hoping to speak...

Spezza Wedding Goes Off Without A Hitch

from Tony Lofaro and Brendan Kennedy of the Ottawa Citizen, Jennifer Snell pulled up in a vintage 1957 Rolls Royce Saturday at Notre Dame Basilica as her husband-to-be, Ottawa Senators centre Jason Spezza, and hundreds of guests waited inside. But when told by the wedding planner that some of the wedding guests were still entering the church, the Rolls driver took Snell for a ride around the block,...

Mailbag Answers

-Hi Senschirp, Eklund is reporting that the Senators are interested in signing defensemen Derek Morris. Are you hearing the same thing? Thank you Marcel Like the rest of you I can’t help but visit Eklund’s site. He gets a bad rap at times but the guy really does work very hard. I personally haven’t heard anything about the Senators looking at Derek Morris and until some bodies are...
