A bruised knee kept Brad Stuart out of the lineup Saturday night against the New York Rangers and gave Derek Meech an opportunity to play for the first time this season. Meech won a battle with Kyle Quincey for the Red Wings' last roster spot on defense, but it was Quincey who played first this season.

Marian Hossa left millions of dollars on the table to play in Detroit. Dan Cleary could have hit the free agent jackpot but took less to stay in Detroit.
