Isles stretch win streak to four as Witt nets rare pair

UNIONDALE, N.Y. (AP) Brendan Witt was already having the game of his life when chants of his name echoed around Nassau Coliseum. The hard-hitting defenseman had two goals in the bank when fans clamored for more in the final minute of the New York Islanders' 3-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers on Monday night. The net at the other end was empty, and Witt had a chance at a most-improbable hat trick.

Whats Up With The Islanders

Four straight wins, and over some decent opponents to. With a 3-1 victory over the Oilers tonight, they have moved into a playoff position. The young kids are really coming together. Besides Edmonton, the Islanders have beaten the Rangers, the Capitals, and the Sabres. Those are 3 quality teams this year! The Islanders now have a 5-4-5 record on the year. They seem to be getting contributions from...

Last Night's Action: Coming Back To The Bronx

Philadelphia 8 Yankees 6 : AJ Burnett went on three-days rest and he blew up in a huge way. Burnett couldn’t record an out in the third and he ended up surrendering six runs, the big blow coming on a three-run homer from Chase Utley. The Yankees actually had a chance in the ninth. Trailing by three runs, they put the first two runners on, but Derek Jeter grounded into a double play, which did...

A ONE-Point Night: Islanders 4 - Caps 3 (OT)

Well, it finally caught up with them. Often times in a winning streak, you can see the end coming, even when the team continues to win. In the last two games the Caps were bailed out by good goaltending in the third period, as both Semyon Varlamov and Jose Theodore had to withstand 20 shots on goal in that period in wins against Philadelphia and Atlanta. They didn’t get that good goaltending...

Caps Briefing: Splitting Hairs

Photo by Ghost Bear . In a contest of teams built from the ground up by the two best general managers in Washington Capitals history, the Caps beat the Nashville Predators 3-2 last night at the Verizon Center. The two men -- former GM David Poile and current GM George McPhee -- have worked together in the past, when Poile made the best offer for his disgruntled former employee, Brendan Witt. Right...

Something got us thinking

We were visiting the Red Wings web site, and we took note of the various season ticket plans that were available. Leaving aside the fact that we never thought we'd ever see the Red Wings advertising this late in the year for season ticket plans, we were struck by what was available. Of course, they have the "45 game" plan that covers all regular seaon and preseason games (note to staff...

Penguins at Islanders - 10-03-09

PREGAME Greetings from our living room. The Penguins will be facing the Islanders in ther season debut. And they will be the first opponent in John Tavares' career. EN reader Brian Warcup is in Nassau Coliseum and sent us a few warm-up shots: -Dan Bylsma and Dan Potash discuss nutrition: -Marc-Andre Fleury gets a start for the second consecutive night. Collecting captains - 9-16-09

We're pretty sure this list doesn't really prove anything, but we found it interesting ( Sorry, we're hockey geeks ). The following is a list of each team and the current and former captain they currently have on their training camp rosters. Each player is listed with the team(s) they captained: Team (Number of Players) Players (Team) Canuck (5) Pavol Demitra (Wild) Keith Carney-*(Wild) Roberto Luongo...
