Karl Alzner's first goal as a pro was one of many highlights in Hershey's 8-3 romp over Rochester this evening. Chris Bourque had a penalty shot goal and three assists, Quintin Laing and Oskar Osala had a pair of goals each, and Alzner added a helper to his goal (and was a team-best plus-four on the night), as the Bears outshot the Amerks 50-16 for the game.

After recording two goals and three assists in three games with Hershey to start the season, Chris Bourque is happy to be back in Washington and at Kettler. And in addition seeing Bourque on the fourth line alongside Dave Steckel and Matt Bradley, coach Bruce Boudreau hinted that the left wing might see some time on the second power play unit as well. "I have faith in him," Boudreau said. "He wasn't...

Injuries already have the Caps calling up some talent for Saturday's game against the Devils according to Capitals Public Relations. Chris Bourque will suit up for the Caps as Donald Brashear, Tom Poti, and Viktor Kozlov have nagging injuries that will keep them out of the line up. Because the Caps have brought up a forward, it's almost certian that Sergei Fedorov will be back on defense.

I talked to General Manager George McPhee during the Caps media luncheon at Verizon Center about yesterday's final round of cuts. He said that the team was impressed and very happy with the play of Chris Bourque and Karl Alzner and called the cuts, including that of Quintin Laing, "the most difficult we've had to make here." When asked point blank if Alzner's assignment to Hershey was a cap-based move,...

We start with Tarik El-Bashir's article in this morning's Washington Post, chronicling the fate of Karl Alzner, Chris Bourque, and Quintin Laing, all of whom (assuming Laing clears waivers) will be headed up Route 15 to Hershey to start...

A few comments from Boudreau on the demotion of Chris Bourque and Karl Alzner as well as putting Quintin Laing on waivers: *On telling the players: "They were the toughest cuts I've ever had to make. Because they did everything they could. It's just not in the cards right now, for whatever reason. We know they are going to play games for us." *On the team's plans for Fedorov now that there are only...

The Capitals made their final cuts this afternoon, sending Chris Bourque and Karl Alzner to Hershey, I'm told. Quintin Laing has also been placed on waivers with the intention of assigning him to Hershey tomorrow (if he clears, of course). General Manager George McPhee said through a team spokesman that he'll comment on the decisions tomorrow at media day. I am, however, hoping to hear from Coach Bruce...
