Anchored by a stellar performance in goal by Joey MacDonald, who made 38 saves, the Islanders completed a home-and-home sweep of longtime nemesis Ottawa with a 3-2 victory last night at Nassau Coliseum. The Isles built a 3-0 lead on goals by Sean Bergenheim, Jon Sim and Chris Campoli, and though they surrendered late goals to Dany Heatley and Jason Spezza to make it close, there never was a sense of...

The Islanders seem to be healing, at last. First, goalie Rick DiPietro got back on the ice. Now, defenseman Chris Campoli is close to returning from a shoulder injury that has sidelined him since last month - after he had recovered from...

It was exactly a month ago today that the Islanders' Chris Campoli was rammed ferociously into the boards by Boston's Michael Ryder, leaving the defenseman with his second shoulder injury in an eight-month span. The first one, Jan. 16, resulted in shoulder surgery and cost him the final 36 games of the season.

First a quick bit of news, if you haven't heard: Emerging Isles D Chris Campoli is out for the season with his shoulder surgery, and hot-of-late Freddy Meyer has been signed to an extension that will keep him off the Bridgeport-pressbox-Phoenix-San Antonio shuttle. Campoli had really grown as a reliable blueliner with a sprinkle of offensive [...]

If you had to pick three stars from the Islanders' 5-2 win Thursday night in Washington, there would be no shortage of candidates. Start with Bill Guerin's hat trick, and consider Bryan Berard's game-winning goal and two assists, goaltender Rick DiPietro's stellar play and defenseman Chris Campoli's four assists. Tough choice.

If Islanders defenseman Chris Campoli feels any sense of vindication, he's keeping it on a tight leash. When last season began, Campoli was the odd man sent out to Bridgeport after pulling a hamstring in training camp. He returned as an injury replacement but scored only one goal in 51 games after netting nine in a 34-point rookie season.
