by Greg Couch Filed under: Red Wings , NHL Free Agency , Minor League Hockey HOFFMAN ESTATES, Ill. -- You park your car, walk in the side door of the Hoffman Estates Community Center in suburban Chicago, and the first thing you see is some gray-haired, slightly hunched guy standing under a sign that says, "Senior Center. 50+ club." Chris Chelios is not aging well. What? Oh, wait, that wasn't...
Wins? Who needs them, not when you're getting those sweet, sweet charity points. Blues news In case you didn't know, the Blues blew it Sunday afternoon. [St. Louis Post-Dispatch] Here's the Canadian Press writeup of the Blues game. [TSN] John Davidson will be going into the Hall of Fame today as a broadcaster. [St. Louis Post-Dispatch] Brett Hull will be joining JD in Toronto, but he'll be going as...
With Cam Ward still in the hospital, it was announced today that Carolina is looking at adding goaltending depth to their team. I was told by a source today that one player the team has looked at is Vesa Toskala. Toskala is in the final year of a $4 million per year deal, and is one of the few potential starting goaltenders available on the trade market. To offset the cost, the Leafs would take one...
GRAND RAPIDS -- Former Red Wings defenseman Chris Chelios travels to hockey arenas on buses these days instead of a private jet. And he stays in hotels geared for traveling businessmen, not the resorts and five-star accommodations that the Wings are known for staying at.
GRAND RAPIDS -- If an NHL team gets interested in 47-year-old defenseman Chris Chelios this season, it'll likely be to contribute on the penalty kill and to play a sound defensive game. Until then, Chelios is enjoying his run as a point-a-game offensive contributor for the Chicago Wolves of the American Hockey League.

Last night I attended an AHL hockey game that took place at the same time as Game 6 of the World Series. Sure, NHL great Chris Chelios was playing on the opposing team, but it was a Wednesday night and there probably weren’t 2,000 people there (I’m awful at estimating numbers, FYI). And amongst those few apparently hard-core hockey fans, I saw at least a half-dozen New York Yankees hats....
The Wolves got the best of the Milwaukee Admirals last night in the latest leg of the Amtrak Rivalry by a 4-3 final . It also happened to be the first road win for the Wolves this season. Anthony Stewart opened the scoring halfway through the first to get the Wolves up 1-0 and Tim Stapleton made it 2-0 just a few minutes later. Not to be outdone, Milwaukee countered with a pair of goals of their own...
The leadership has changed names on the office door four times in the last few years, in the last two months; the only sure thing has been a revolving door of departing employees, some by choice, and some by other less amicable means. The image of the organization is in tatters while the membership continues to try and figure out what they’re doing and why they’re doing it, no one seems...
from Sportsnet, Former NHL star Steve Larmer is very concerned about the fate of the NHL Players Association. In a letter of resignation to the NHLPA obtained by Hockeycentral, Larmer wrote: The NHLPA constitution that was created in 2005 has now been suspended. Certain players with the assistance of their agents have, in a sense, hijacked the union. They have used the cover of an operations review...
from Scott Burnside of ESPN, Speaking of the NHLPA, the irony is just too rich. Former executive director Paul Kelly was dismissed in August by the NHLPA’s 30 player reps in large part due to a fishy staff review spearheaded by general counsel Ian Penny, who assumed Kelly’s role on an interim basis. Now, those player reps have decided they need to get straight how all of this nastiness...
from Renaud Lavoie at RDS (translated), Chris Chelios has played the elbow and stick throughout his career, but now with the Players Association NHL it seems to frighten his opponents. The problem is that “opponents” are found in the same camp as him and do a good portion of NHLPA members who question his intentions now. Several staff members and supporters, under cover of anonymity, say...
