More photos » by NATHAN DENETTE - AP Browse more photos » Jonas Gustavsson has made quite an impression here in Toronto so far, essentially rescuing the Leafs goaltending situation after returning from a groin injury. His save percentage is up to .918, he has a winning record and Toronto's on as much of a roll as you can be on after winning three out of seven games (3-0-4). Tonight, the...

I think we are far enough into the season to conclude that the Chicago Blackhawks have the best team defence. Chicago has held opposition to an amazing 22.7 shots per game so far. This is 3.5 shots per game better than any other team (Los Angeles is second). The Blackhawks have a solid 8-6 record (with one regulation tie) but have not been able to capitalize on this top defence so far because of lacklustre...

Kris Versteeg, Cam Barker and Patrick Sharp score; Cristobal Huet sharp in goal Maybe it was the matchup between Original Six teams that made the Blackhawks go all old-time hockey Friday night.

After a rough start two weeks ago, Chicago Blackhawks goaltender Cristobal Huet was looking for a boost. The Nashville Predators might have provided him just that.

Mmmm. Marshmallows. Soft. Anything that gets Cristobal Huet going, anything that makes the players in front of him believe he is the goalie who’ll get them into June, fine by me. Huet made several quality saves early in a 3-1...

AP Photo/Charles Rex Arbogast The Blackhawks have started in on another winning streak, taking their second game in a row courtesy a 3-1 victory over the Minnesota Wild last night at the United Center. Dave Bolland got the scoring started about midway through the first period and Troy Brouwer followed up with a power play goal late in the first to give the 'Hawks a 2-0 edge. Cristobal Huet makes 27 saves for shutout On a night when the Blackhawks faced several unknowns, they at least could take solace in the fact they had a familiarity with their opponent.

I do remember the roar. And I remember my first Blackhawks game. I grew up in the western suburbs and my father took me to Chicago Stadium on Feb. 20, 1980 when Tony Esposito and the Hawks downed the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-2.My most vivid memories of the night are Esposito taking a slap shot to the head and collapsing, sending the crowd of 9,322 into a stunned silence. After a few minutes the Hall of...

from Steve Rosenbloom of Rosen Blog, The Blackhawks lost their captain and then lost their poise. The Hawks then lost the lead, lost one of their top two defensemen, and finally lost the game on a stupid play in the defensive zone by two of their best offensive players. Man, the Hawks will go to any length to take your mind off the goaltending mess, eh? Thing is, goaltending wasn’t the problem...

But the veteran goaltender will have to wait awhile as rookie Antti Niemi will be in goal Wednesday night when the Blackhawks face the Canucks at the United Center.
