via Inside the Kings, There was a report that the Kings might sign defenseman Danny Markov out of Russia. A Kings source said the team talked to Markov but that Markov declined to take a physical in advance and Markov declined. So it seems that unless Markov has a change of heart, he won’t be coming to the Kings.

from Snapshots at Mlive, Two rumours popped up this morning; the first discusses a former Red Wing’s purported return to the NHL, and the other claims that a future Wing will be locked up for the next three seasons. Sport-Express’s Alexander Shapiro claims that former Wing Danny Markov is coming back to the NHL to play for the LA Kings… Aftonbladet’s Victor Melander and Tomas Ros say that Red Wings...

from the NY Post, Danny Markov was one of the top three unrestricted defensemen July 1, and he’s still looking for a contract with a contender. Markov and Colin White are different sorts of defensemen, but the Devils are likely to be without White (eye) for some time, and even when he returns, any team would be improved by a mobile all-around backliner of Markov’s quality. The Devils figure to have...

from the Chicago Tribune, Despite rumors on the Internet and in publications, Tallon said he hadn't “talked to anyone” recently about potential free agents or trades. So no Pavel Kubina? “Nope.” Danny Markov? “Nope.” Tony Amonte? “Nope.” But Tallon hasn't been idly spending his time on the golf course; he just returned from a week in Europe on a scouting trip. “We’re going to see how training camp...

from Greg Logan at On the Islanders Beat, It would be easiest for Snow to go the free-agent route on defense by choosing among the likes of Danny Markov, Andy Sutton or Ossi Vaananen. But he’s determined not to overpay in money or length of contract for a player who might be solid but not necessarily a fit worth a major commitment. More complicated would be the trade route, but that also might be the...

Ansar Khan has an update on negotiations with Danny Markov and Derek Meech, as well as on the search for a top six forward. Nothing groundbreaking. Basically, it looks like Markov won't be back; Meech will have to earn the 7th defensive spot or risk being sent down through waivers; and there is no one [...]

from On the Islanders Beat at Newsday, As of this posting, it doesn't appear the Islanders are going to sign anyone today. Along with Souray, Snow is considering a list that includes Detroit's oft-injured Danny Markov, Atlanta’s Andy Sutton, Nashville’s Vitaly Vishnevski, Colorado’s Ossi Vaananen and likely a few others. Former Isle Bryan Berard might be a consideration, though he played only 11 games...

by George James Malik Andreas Lilja must feel pretty good about himself today. Between Danny Markov’s inevitable departure and the fact that there’s no real serviceable “defensive defenceman” who fits the Wings’ M.O. not named Vitaly Vishnevski, and his superb playoff performance in the absence of his now-departed teammate Mathieu Schneider, the Red Wings’ lone “big man” on defence is much more likely...
