Quick update from Joe Louis Arena: Wings forward Darren McCarty will miss tonight's game against the Blue Jackets after tweaking his groin in the morning skate.

The Red Wings today recalled forward Darren Helm from the Grand Rapids Griffins of the American Hockey League and assigned forward Darren McCarty to the Griffins. The Red Wings also assigned forward Randall Gelech from Grand Rapids to Rochester (AHL). Helm is currently second on the Griffins roster in scoring with 18 points in 16 games (5-13--18).

Think there may be a little friction in the room right now? Darren McCarty essentially replaced Kirk Maltby in the lineup against Chicago Saturday. Khan(!) Babcock said he needs more from his third and fourth lines, one of the reasons why he sat Maltby for Darren McCarty. It was the first time in recent memory Maltby was a healthy scratch. He was upset about it and declined comment.
