Well, didn't they lay an egg? There is no explanation to do justice to losing to a team that had one win on its own ice in nine tries, whose wins coming into this game came against teams with a combined 22-28-12 record. But the Caps found a way to lose to such a team tonight, dropping a 2-1 Gimmick loss to the Toronto Maple Leafs in Toronto. It isn’t even as if Toronto played an especially inspired...

The Caps' Eric Fehr netted the only goal of the first period for either team, but the Canadiens had twice as many...

Your Browser DoesNot Support IFrames. Well, that one was interesting. Alexander Semin has two goals, Chris Clark had the decisive tally in the 11th round and the Caps beat the Isles, 5-4, last night. "Even when we were down, I never thought that we were out of it," Coach Bruce Boudreau said. "It was too early. There were 50 minutes left in the game, we were down 3-1, but I thought we...

Alex Semin was all over the ice Wednesday, helping Chris Clark and Seymon Varlamov push the Caps past the tricky Islanders. Photo by choofly . Welcome back, Captain Clark – with a little help from his trusty sidekicks Alex and Seymon, of course. Chris Clark was the eleventh Cap to take the ice in a shootout against the New York Islanders Wednesday night, and only the second Cap to score, but...

Tomas Fleischmann kept on scoring in Alex Ovechkin's absence Wednesday night, and Alexander Semin started doing so. Scoring depth and relief goaltending helped counter a bad start and late penalties as the Washington Capitals prevailed 5-4 in a shootout against the New York Islanders at Verizon Center. Fleischmann scored for the sixth time in seven games, and Semin netted a pair after three straight...

A few quick updates: The Caps have placed Alex Ovechkin, who is still nursing a strain near his left shoulder, on injured reserve to make room for Eric Fehr on the roster. Ovechkin could, however, still return Wednesday against the Isles. Mike Green and Jeff Schultz, who both left last night's game with injuries, will be game-time decisions tonight against Florida at Verizon Center. Also, Shaone Morrisonn...

Never a dull moment... Onto the Battle Damage Assessment... THE GOOD: "The Life of" Brian Pothier with a goal and two assists tonight. We need him to get in to a better groove with the injuries starting to mount. Brendan Morrrissonn with two goals including the all-important empty-netter. It would have counted regardless because he was fouled as he went into score the goal and the referee...

The Caps will be looking to win five in a row for the first time since a seven-game streak from December through January tonight when they host Philly at Verizon Center. But to keep the streak going, they'll have to beat the Flyers a little bit short-handed. As I mentioned earlier, both Eric Fehr (upper-body) and Quintin Laing (flu) will be sidelined, which means defenseman Tyler Sloan will have to...

Bruce Boudreau just said Alexander Semin will play tonight and confirmed that both Eric Fehr and Quintin Laing will be out. Fehr was hit hard in the rib area Saturday night and is day-to-day with an "upper body" injury; Laing has the flu (not sure which type) and was sent home. With those two out, defenseman Tyler Sloan will be inserted as a left wing against Philly. More in a bit.

Alexander Semin is on the ice this morning, which likely means he'll return to the lineup tonight against Philly after missing the past two games with injury/illness. Also, Mike Green, who left yesterday's practice early with general soreness, is back out there and appears to be good to go. Alex Ovechkin, meantime, is taking the morning off, according to a team official. But the two-time MVP will play...

The Caps just hit the ice here at KCI and Bruce Boudreau has made some changes to accomodate the return of Alexander Semin. Semin, who has missed the past two games with a combination of injury and illness, according to the team, is back on the top line with Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom. Boudreau has also restored the second line to the way it looked at the start of the season, with Brooks Laich-Brendan...

Tonight’s menu special… Bruce Boudreau was in a tinkering mood tonight, desperately trying to find a wing – any wing – who could make a difference skating with Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom. Mike Knuble, Brooks Laich, Eric Fehr, Matt Bradley (seriously), Peter Bondra, Alan Haworth, Brian Bellows, Esa Tikkanen… ok, those last few weren’t in the lineup, but...

Alex Ovechkin had two goals and scored in the shootout to lead the Washington Capitals to a 3-2 victory against the Nashville Predators at Verizon Center on Saturday night. Ovechkin gave the Caps a 2-0 advantage with a pair of first-period goals. Fifteen seconds after Eric Fehr drew his second penalty in as many shifts, Ovechkin drilled a one-timer from Mike Green past the outstretched skate of Nashville...

It is a battle Eric Fehr has waged before: prove he deserves regular playing time for the Washington Capitals despite returning from a major injury and being deployed on one of the bottom two lines. Oh, just for good measure: There is another injured player's return on the horizon that could complicate matters, so he doesn't have a lot of time to ease back into things. Fehr spent his summer vacation...
