from Dave Molinari of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, Hall of Fame center Ron Francis is fond of telling about the time he asked Mario Lemieux how he prepared for training camp, and Lemieux responded that, about a month beforehand, he stopped ordering french fries with his club sandwich. But such attitudes and actions are no more a part of the NHL today than bench-clearing brawls and the Oakland Seals....
Minnesota and Pittsburgh face each other tonight and that can mean only one thing- another Derek Boogaard and Eric Godard fight? Emoty Netters has highlights of their previous bouts.

In part 2, Max offers up some thoughts on the firing of Denis Savard, his new teammate Eric Godard, and the tragic death of Alexei Cherepanov: The Hawks have acted very quickly I just learn about the dismissal of Denis Savard and in my opinion, the Blackhawks showed him the door rather quickly. Moreover, I have only heard good reviews about [him]. Fire a coach after only four games, it's very fast...
"If Ovechkin won’t respect Malkin’s status as a superstar, the Penguins can’t respect Ovechkin’s status as a superstar. If that means that Eric Godard does Ovechkin a favor by rearranging his face, so be it. Malkin shouldn’t retaliate personally. That’s not his job. It might help Malkin’s street cred, but what if Malkin broke a finger? The reward is dwarfed by the risk." - Mark Madden, Beaver
from Mark Madden of the Beaver County Times, If Ovechkin won’t respect Malkin’s status as a superstar, the Penguins can’t respect Ovechkin’s status as a superstar. If that means that Eric Godard does Ovechkin a favor by rearranging his face, so be it. more
Don't get me wrong, I had a massive man-crush on Georges Laraque during his tenure with the Penguins. Probably still do, despite him playing in Canada now. However, some recent fights by Penguins newcomers Eric Godard and Paul Bissonette will help fans get over BGL pretty quick. Check out the two destroy Riley Cote and Matt Bradley respectively in the past two games. Monsters.
The Pens acquired Georges Laraque last year as a way to protect their young talent. The problem was, Laraque fancied himself a real player and didn’t do as much enforcing as most people would have liked. Eric Godard doesn’t have that problem, he’s just a straight up asskicker. via the incomparable hockeyfights.com
from Randy Sportak of the Calgary Sun, “Right away I told my agent it was a great fit,” said the 33-year-old veteran yesterday. Actually, it is a solid match. The Flames were in need of a tough guy with Eric Godard moving on to the Pittsburgh Penguins, especially in a division loaded with heavyweights—Derek Boogaard in Minnesota, Scott Parker in Colorado, Darcy Hordichuk in Vancouver and Zach Stortini...
The Penguins have resigned Mark Eaton and Pascal Dupuis and have signeed Eric Godard. Eaton - 2 years 2 mil Dupuis - 3 years 4.2 mil Godard - 3 years Pens lost Hall and Conklin to Tampa and Detroit, respectively
Sportsnet is reporting the re-signings of Craig Conroy, Eric Nystrom, Curtis MceLhinney and Daymon Lankgow. Conspicuously absent: Owen Nolan and Eric Godard (although there's lots of time left). Nothing surprising here. More analysis when the dollars and terms are released.
John Erskine is not practicing today. I mentioned in my notes last night that the rugged defenseman played only 5:12 against the Flames after getting in a fight with Eric Godard in the first period. I've inquired about his status, but I haven't received an update yet. I'll be sure to post an update when I hear something. Reporters also attempted to get an interview with defenseman Brian Pothier last...
