The Peerless Prognosticator is ON THE AIR!!! Well, folks, it’s happened again. Two years ago, it happened … last year, it happened . And now, it’s reared its ugly head again. In October, I picked Alexander Semin of the Washington Capitals as the early season MVP. However, Semin has not played a game since November 14th due to a back injury. As a result, it is time to pick a new leader in the 2008/09 Hart Trophy race. That leader is Evgeni Malkin of the Pittsburgh Penguins. Malkin leads the NHL in scoring with 35 points. His 25 assists are also a league leading total. The...

from John Pereira at ESPN Fantasy Hockey Blog, Evgeni Malkin picked up the natural hat trick in the third period to lead the Pittsburgh Penguins to a comeback win over the New York Islanders. He now has 18 points in November alone. … Bad news for Olli Jokinen owners. The big Finn injured his shoulder in the first period and is now listed as day-to-day. Scary. Sick. Possessed. You name the adjective, but it certainly is a sight to see when Evgeni Malkin and Sidney Crosby collectively turn it up a notch. And that they did, overcoming a 3-1 third period deficit with four goals, including Malkin’s natural hat trick, to defeat the Islanders 5-3 at Nassau Coliseum.

The player of the game was definitely Evgeni Malkin, who scored a natural hat trick (three goals in a row) starting [...]

Props to Fanhouse’s Eric McErlain, who provided a translated version of an interview between Sovetsky’s Mikhail Bykov and the Pens’ Evgeni Malkin. Malkin is not happy with the Pens’ play of late, and speaking strictly for myself, I’m glad to see it. Malkin, who was given the alternate captain’s “A” this year, was expected to provide an increased level of leadership by HCMT.
