Looks like the Caps are going to be significantly shorthanded tomorrow against the Panthers. Tom Poti, Mike Green, John Erskine, Alexander Semin and Sergei Fedorov are not expected to play, Coach Bruce Boudreau said, while Boyd Gordon is questionable. A few other notes and quotes from KCI: *The Caps are going to make one recall today. The only question is who (and it doesn't look like it's going to...

With Jeff Schultz, Sergei Fedorov, Alexander Semin, Mike Green, Boyd Gordon, John Erskine and Chris Clark all out, Coach Bruce Boudreau obviously has been forced to do some major lineup shuffling. Here are the forward combos as of right now: Ovechkin-Backstrom-Kozlov Fleischmann-Nylander-Fehr Bourque-Laich-Bradley Brashear-Steckel-Mink The 'D' pairings: Sloan-Poti Alzner-Jurcina Lepisto-Morrisonn Semin...

John Erskine is the Caps' best defensive defenseman and is only very slightly worse than Nicklas Lidstrom as a defensive defenseman. Mirtle reports. You decide (and if you want more ammo, head over to TRS).

Alex Ovechkin is indeed back in town and on the ice for practice. Injured defenseman Shaone Morrisonn is also skating, but John Erskine (calf) is not, so Sergei Fedorov remains on the blue line. There's also been another round of line shuffling, with Chris Clark being dropped to the fourth line: Forwards Ovechkin-Backstrom-Kozlov Fleischmann-Nylander-Semin Laich-Steckel-Bradley Brashear-Gordon-Clark...

A few quick notes from American Airlines Center: Jose Theodore will start in goal while David Steckel and Eric Fehr will be the scratches. Viktor Kozlov will return from a four game absence and skate on the top line. Defenseman John Erskine, after missing a game with a bruised calf, is also back in. More in a bit....Please click on the title to continue reading this entry.

John Erskine's two-year contract extension will pay him $1.25 million in each of the next two years. To what does he owe this 127% raise? Here's a bit of what he did last season: He had two goals, seven assists and a plus-1 rating in 51 games played. He had 24% more minor penalties than anyone on the team, despite playing 25 fewer games than his closest competition in this category. In fact, he

Defenseman John Erskine will miss tonight's game in Phoenix with a bruised calf. He'll be replaced in the lineup by Sergei Fedorov, who will move from first line center to the blue line. Fedorov will be paired with Milan Jurcina. Erskine's absence leaves Donald Brashear and Matt Bradley to handle any of the rough stuff tonight. And there probably will be some that considering who's in the lineup for...

I'm told that defenseman John Erskine will earn $1.25 million in each of the next two seasons after earning $550,000 this season. If you read between the lines, his new contract shows the Caps are counting on him to contribute on a nightly basis as a No. 5 or 6. Because that's too much money for a player who might be scratched on a regular basis. I'm still not sure about Erskine's status for tonight,...Please...

Per Tarik, the Caps have signed John Erskine to a two-year extension that will keep him in D.C. (should they so decide) through the 2010-11 season. We can debate the wisdom of the signing, but first, let's take a look at what it means to the blueline corps in the medium-to-long-term. To begin with, the Caps already have Mike Green and Tom Poti locked up for the next couple of years or more, so

John Erskine limped onto the ice for the morning skate, and after 15 minutes, he's still out there. But he's clearly uncomfortable and Coach Bruce Boudreau said he isn't sure if the rugged defenseman will be able to play tonight against the Coyotes. If Erskine can't go, Sergei Fedorov will skate on the blue line. I'll have much more from Jobing.com Arena in an hour or so....Please click on the title...

As John Erskine battles for minutes (and perhaps even a roster spot) on the Caps blueline, we pause and reflect upon other John Erskines throughout history (just go with it, people). For example, there's this dandy John Erskine, the benefactor of the Erskine Programme at the University of Canterbury: And this next John Erskine, the early-20th Century American educator and author, who noted, "

John Erskine is probably not going to be a star in the league, but he can be valuable as a 5-6-7 defenseman. Last year, he filled...
