It looks like New York Ranger fans have found themselves a new Marek Malik to boo in defenseman Michal Rozsival, a guy the team signed a $20-million contract extension over the summer. This is something that the Rangers cannot afford to have and Rozsival needs to change things fast or else he is going to make Rangers’ management look extremely stupid for resigning him over the summer.

Free-agent defenseman Marek Malik skated with the Lightning on Thursday morning as the team assesses where the 6-foot-6, 240-pound Czech Republic native stands with his conditioning. Tampa Bay vice president of hockey operations Brian Lawton said it could be anywhere from three-to-five days, depending on how Malik performs on his physical, before the defenseman is signed. Lightning coach Barry Melrose...

I kind of wish I was an NHL defenseman this season. They sure seem to be in short supply. The Lightning are expected to sign Marek Malik this week. Malik was unsigned at the start of this season but I guess teams are getting more desperate. Malik was pretty immobile last season. I can’t imagine what [...]

If there was one common theme for the Rangers as they compiled their 4-0 start, it was their opponents' lack of depth, especially on defense (Tampa is so desperate, they're bringing in Marek Malik for a try-out). Tonight, the Rangers...

from Lightning Strikes, Marek Malik could be the next addition to the Lightning’s ever-evolving defense. The 6-foot-5, 233-pound unrestricted free agent is expected in Tampa this week, though it is unclear if he will sign a one-year, $1-million contract or practice as a tryout. Add the expected return, perhaps as soon as Thursday against the Islanders, of Paul Ranger (shoulder), and Saturday’s addition...

from Kevin Allen of Mucking & Grinding, With training camp now just a week away, here’s what you should expect to happen over the next few days: 1. The Atlanta Thrashers hope to land another defenseman, possibly even unrestricted free agent Marek Malik, although they are considering other options. They still plan to give rookie Zach Bogosian the opportunity to make the team. continued

from Larry Brooks of the NY Post, Blueshirts are believed interested in bringing back St. Louis winger Martin Rucinsky for a fourth tour of duty on Broadway. Rangers would deal Marek Malik - whom St. Louis president John Davidson likes - but would need to get a defenseman back either while or before moving him. Sharks and Thrashers have talked about a blockbuster in which Patrick Marleau and Matt Carle...

Finally a victory over a Western Conference team. And what a win. This time we had to come from behind when Lundqvist was victimized by Jonathan Cheechoo and Marek Malik as Cheechoo banked one off of Malik to give the Sharks an early lead. But Callahan tied it right after a Ranger power play expired and Drury (19) scored the game winner on a PP. However, it was a nail biter down to the end and

It was too good to be true. Marek Malik was going to sit as Paul Mara returned to the lineup. That was about as good as it was going to get. Yes, the Rangers came back with two straight goals, the first by Marcel Hossa and Chris Drury's seventh, to give them a brief 2-1 lead and then the tying goal by Dupuis and finally the winner by Kozlov past backup Steve Valiquette who started for Lundqvist.
