Practice just started at KCI, and I don't see Alex Ovechkin, Jeff Schultz or Michael Nylander on the ice. Ovechkin, or course, is out with a strain near his left shoulder; Schultz left Friday's game with a lower body injury; and Nylander was placed on waivers on Saturday. Nylander is scheduled to clear waivers at noon today. Mike Green, however, has returned after missing Saturday's game with an upper...

GM George McPhee acknowledged that Michael Nylander cleared waivers this afternoon, but he declined to shed much more light on the awkward situation other than to hint that a deal could be in the works. Earlier in the day, Coach Bruce Boudreau said that Nylander will not be returning to the Caps. McPhee, though, stopped short of confirming that. "Some decisions have been made," McPhee said....

I haven't received word on whether or not Michael Nylander has cleared waivers. But this much is pretty certain at this point: It doesn't seem that No. 92 will be returning to Washington.

Michael Nylander has been put on waivers, Capitals Insider reports. This means the veteran Swede has agreed to waive his no-movement clause. Any team can claim him until noon tomorrow, but if no GM picks him off the wire it’s still no guarantee he’ll be put in the minors, writes Tarik. Nyls’ $4.875 million cap hit [...]

More photos » by Ross D. Franklin - AP Browse more photos » It's painfully obvious that the Leafs need a better option to pass to Phil Kessel than Matt Stajan . They also probably need a better winger than Jason Blake on that line but that's a Question of the Day for another day. Today's question: what should the Leafs do at centre? Stay the course: Tyler Bozak and Nazem Kadri are in the...

A few pre-morning skate notes from Nassau Coliseum: *Tomas Fleischmann's road back to the NHL will begin in Hershey. The winger, who is recovering from a blood clot in his leg, has been assigned to the Bears for a conditioning stint and will be available to face the Binghamton tonight. He also could play against Portland tomorrow. *Alexander Semin has not rejoined the Caps on Long Island, so it's probably...

Michael Nylander has one of the larger contracts on the Washington Capitals. He has a salary cap hit of $4.875 million and is signed through the end of the 2010/11 season. This makes him the third highest paid player on the Capitals (behind Alexander Ovechkin and Mike Green). However, he has fallen out of favor with his Capitals team. He only scored nine goals last season and that had the Capitals...

The Washington Capitals have assigned center Michael Nylander to Grand Rapids of the American Hockey League for a conditioning stint. Nylander, 37, hasn't played all season, having fallen out of favor with the coaching staff and front office. The Capitals have found it difficult to trade the forward because of his $5.5 million salary and the no-movement clause in his contract.
