Karl Alzner has been recalled and appears set to make his season debut tonight against Ryan Miller and Sabres. It also looks like Milan Jurcina will return from a groin tweak that kept him out of the past six games. But the overall injury situation remains bleak. There was no sign of Alexander Semin (wrist), Tom Poti (bruised chest), Boyd Gordon (back) and Shaone Morrisonn (concussion) this morning...

The Capitals started practice about 20 minutes later than expected, but Coach Bruce Boudreau is putting his players through some fairly rigorous five-on-five drills considering the team didn't get back from Ottawa until 1:30 am last night. Injured defensemen Milan Jurcina and Shaone Morrisonn are both skating, but Alex Ovechkin, Alexander Semin, Mike Knuble, Tom Poti and Boyd Gordon are all missing....

Michal Neuvirth will make his season debut tonight at Verizon Center as the Caps look to win their second straight game and for the sixth time in their past seven contests. Carey Price, meanwhile, will get the nod for the Canadiens. The Caps, as you know by now, are really banged up. They're so banged up, in fact, owner Ted Leonsis blogged about it earlier today: No Alexander Semin; Mike Knuble; Boyd...

The Washington Capitals have recalled 6’3”, 208-pound defenseman John Carlson from Hershey. No word yet on whether Carlson will suit up when the Caps host the Montreal Canadiens Friday night, though given Milan Jurcina and Shaone Morrisson are both day-to-day it seems Big John has a fair shot at getting ice time. For more on our early impressions of Carlson, read our assessment of his performance...

2008 first round draft pick John Carlson was called up from the Hershey Bears. With injuries to Milan Jurcina an Shaone Morrisonn on the blue line. Obviously, excitement with Carlson is evident. How big of a deal is this? Well, owner Ted Leonsis has joined General Manager George McPhee in the management box perched above the [...]

With defensemen Milan Jurcina and Shaone Morrisonn nicked up, the Capitals have recalled first-round pick John Carlson from Hershey. He's here at Kettler skating with Tom Poti during beginning-of-practice drills. How big of a deal is this? Well, owner Ted Leonsis has joined General Manager George McPhee in the management box perched above the ice here in Arlington for a bit. He's not usually a fixture...

(Toni L. Sandys/The Washington Post) Update: The Caps have recalled defenseman John Carlson from Hershey. Both Milan Jurcina and Shaone Morrisonn are hurt and could be out for tomorrow's game against Montreal. More to come. An MRI exam on Alexander Semin's right wrist did not reveal any structural damage, but the winger is listed as day to day (don't you love that term') and GM George McPhee said it's...

Tarik's running to talk to GMGM, so here are a few updates via Twitter: * Jose Theodore is on the ice for practice after missing yesterday's game for family reasons. * Many players are taking their option not to skate today, including Alexander Semin, who missed last night's game with a wrist injury. * No update on Alexander Semin's status yet. Hope to have one soon. He just walked back into KCI, presumably...

Not quite boring, not quite exciting... Onto the Battle Damage Assessment... THE GOOD: No shots on goal for the Caps in the first seven minutes as they didn't get the "chase" part of the "dump and chase" style going. But 41 shots on goal over the last 53 minutes was impressive to us even though there are still those who think they didn't shoot enough. We have a Brian Pothier sighting!...
