Seymon Varlamov will start in goal tonight at Air Canada Center, where the banged up Caps try to take two points from the NHL's worst team. Vesa Toskala, meanwhile, is expected to be in net for the Maple Leafs. Out for Washington are: Alexander Semin (wrist), Mike Knuble (broken finger), Boyd Gordon (back), Quintin Laing (broken jaw), Milan Jurcina (groin), Tom Poti (upper body) and Shaone Morrisonn...

Michal Neuvirth will make his season debut tonight at Verizon Center as the Caps look to win their second straight game and for the sixth time in their past seven contests. Carey Price, meanwhile, will get the nod for the Canadiens. The Caps, as you know by now, are really banged up. They're so banged up, in fact, owner Ted Leonsis blogged about it earlier today: No Alexander Semin; Mike Knuble; Boyd...

The Peerless Prognosticator is ON THE AIR!!! Homecoming. The Caps return home after a visit to the Big Apple for games against the Devils and the Rangers. Tonight, it’s the Montreal Canadiens, and the Caps will be playing host with a thinner lineup. Alexander Semin is out with a wrist injury, Jose Theodore is out tending to personal matters, Boyd Gordon’ balky back will keep him on the...

The things a man must do to hold down a job in the National Hockey League - things that leave him with a six-stitch gash over his eye or a broken jaw held together by metal plates. Everybody, after all, can't be Alex Ovechkin. Somebody has to be Matt Bradley and Quintin Laing. Too bad Halloween has come and gone. Bradley, the Capitals' combative right winger, wouldn't have needed a mask Wednesday after...

Alex is back. He scores on his first shot on goal in his return. Matt Bradley rocks. Way to go, Matt! Quintin Laing is hurt - a broken jaw - yikes. That hurts and that is such a shame. It was another road game, a good win and another two points. We are back to first place in the East. We have the second [...]

Tarik's running to talk to GMGM, so here are a few updates via Twitter: * Jose Theodore is on the ice for practice after missing yesterday's game for family reasons. * Many players are taking their option not to skate today, including Alexander Semin, who missed last night's game with a wrist injury. * No update on Alexander Semin's status yet. Hope to have one soon. He just walked back into KCI, presumably...

Quintin Laing took one for the team last night. In fact, he probably banked about 500 for the team with the puck he took to the jaw last night that will keep him on the shelf for several weeks. We've never experienced the technicolor pain of a broken jaw (although we do remember cringing when Michael Corleone took one to the teeth and had his jaw wired shut in "The Godfather"). We wondered,...

The night was supposed to belong to Alex Ovechkin. Instead, it belonged to Matt Bradley. As I wrote in my gamer story (which can be found here), Bradley was the Capitals' catalyst in a 4-2 victory over the Rangers tonight. The fourth line winger scored the winner and suffered a pretty bad gash over his left eye in afight with Aaron Voros. But, as I mentioned in an earlier post, it was Quintin Laing's...

Now that’s what a 60-minute effort looks like. The Caps did not wilt when the New York Rangers scored 1:16 into the game; they didn’t wilt after they took a lead, only to see the Rangers tie the game in the third period. It wasn’t a perfect game, but it was 60 minutes of honest effort, and the Caps were rewarded for it with a 4-2 win over the Rangers at Madison Square Garden. It was...

Coach Bruce Boudreau said he thinks Quintin Laing suffered a broken jaw when he was struck in the face by a Michal Rozsival shot in the third period. The team has not provided an official diagnosis yet, but Boudreau said Laing will remain in New York overnight for observation.

Who needs Alex Ovechkin and Mike Green when you've got Mathieu Perreault and Quintin Laing? With two of the league's most talented players sidelined with injuries, secondary scoring came from all sorts of sources tonight as the Caps routed the Panthers, 7-4, with a five-goal third period. Mike Knuble had two goals and two assists. Tomas Fleischmann had a pair of goals. And, of course, Perreault and...
