The Red Wings started the season by dropping their first two games to St. Louis in Sweden. They finished October having lost seven games. Although a slight exaggeration, this is a team that doesn't normally lose it's seventh game until December! Maybe their slow start was a result of this veteran squad not getting much time off after two straight runs to the finals. Maybe this missed Marian Hossa,...

AP Photo/Mark Humphrey Hot damn, the Blackhawks are on a roll to start the 2009-2010 season. The team is now 5-1-1, their best start in 27 years, after rolling past Nashville 3-1 last night . After a scoreless first period that saw the 'Hawks take 12 shots, Chicago wasted no time getting on the board in the second, scoring two goals less than thirty seconds apart in the opening minutes of the period....

Winning is very nice. I know that between flukey injuries and low goal production, Tomas Kopecky wasn't exactly a perennial favorite among most Wings fans, but he's well liked around our household, and it was a little hard watching him... be a Blackhawk... ugh. And uh, Brad May. Yeah. Who'da thought? Today is Henrik Zetterberg's birthday. Fittingly, it's also Leif Ericson Day. Happy vikings! Ericson...

from Len Ziehm of the Chicago Sun-Times, Now the Wings don’t look so scary without Marian Hossa, Jiri Hudler, Mikael Samuelsson, Tomas Kopecky or Ty Conklin. They all changed teams in the offseason. Hossa and Kopecky signed as free agents with the Hawks, though shoulder surgery has kept Hossa off the ice. The two games with the Blues suggest the Wings have goaltending problems. more

from Len Ziehm of the Chicago Sun-Times, There’s no doubt in my mind the Blackhawks will make a run at the Stanley Cup this season. They certainly should, given their surprisingly strong finish with a young, inexperienced team last season and the offseason additions of Marian Hossa, John Madden and Tomas Kopecky. Hossa, Madden and Kopecky all played on teams that were big winners last season....

from Dan Rosen of NHL.com, Go ahead and mention the departures of Marian Hossa, Jiri Hudler, Mikael Samuelsson, Tomas Kopecky, Ty Conklin and Chris Chelios. But be prepared to hear all about future stars like Jonathan Ericsson, Darren Helm, Justin Abdelkader and Ville Leino, not to mention returning veterans Todd Bertuzzi and Jason Williams. “We didn’t have spots for them before, and now...
