As I stated before, one of the keys to the Flames’ success is going to be limiting the ice time of their defensive liabilities. Adrian Aucoin (not exactly a brilliant defender, but still better than the alternative) picked up 23 minutes of ice time while Cory Sarich only gathered 14 minutes. It is particularly important [...]

CALGARY, Alberta (AP) Rene Bourque, Adrian Aucoin, Jarome Iginla and David Moss scored for the Calgary Flames, who blitzed Peter Budaj and the Colorado Avalanche with 51 shots in a 4-1 victory Tuesday night. Marek Svatos had the lone goal for the Avalanche, whose winning streak ended at three. Colorado will head home after going 2-1 on a road trip that included shootout victories at Vancouver and Edmonton....

At least things are going wrong in Edmonton too. So who gets the axe first? MacTavish or Keenan? (Also - Who is poorer value for $4M? Dustin Penner or Adrian Aucoin') EDIT - Apparently Mark Spector is asking the very same question . Hat tip to Illegal Curve .

Dennis Wideman was re-signed by the Boston Bruins today. Four years, $15.75M . Slightly less than Adrian Aucoin's 4M/year figure. Seems to put a shine on Adrians contract, doesn't it? I mean who is Dennis Wideman...right? He's a 25 year-old defenseman who averaged 25 minutes/night for the Bruins last year, behind only Zdeno Chara. He spent nearly 3 minutes a game on the PK and almost 4 minutes on the...

Okay, so we heard about this story a few years ago when the signings of Adrian Aucoin and Nikolai Khabibulan excited Hawks fans. However, as a renewed Blackhawks fan, I have a feeling this time may be different. One of the best offensive defensemen in the NHL, Brian Campbell, should be the power play quarterback the team lacked last season. Cristobal Huet will hopefully be the strong netminder that...

A little while ago, Frequent Commenter Ngthagg and I had a back and forth regarding Adrian Aucoin. Here's his comment , which is the jumping off point for this discussion: I think Aucoin may have a bit more value than some people think. Look at his numbers: 10g/25p +13 20:57/game 37PIM I don't know if that's worth $4M, but it's worth more than bugger all. Those are the numbers of a reliable offensive...

from the Calgary Herald, It's not like the older defencemen ignored him completely. It's not like Adrian Aucoin, breaking in with the Vancouver Canucks in 1995, wasn't involved. “They'd tell me to get the beer and I’d get the beer,” says Aucoin, grinning. “I didn't say a word. That's the way it was. They were the best guys”—Dave Babych, Dana Murzyn, Jyrki Lumme, Jeff Brown, Bret Hedican—“and I had...
