Bruce MacLeod at Red Wings Corner notes that… Chuck Pleiness of The Macomb Daily reports that defenseman Andreas Lilja (appendectomy) skate this morning and thinks he has a shot at being back in the lineup in Chicago, Saturday. Wow. The guy just had his appendectomy on Tuesday.

The defenseman could return to the lineup as early as Friday, according to coach Mike Babcock, but that does seem like a very speedy recovery. The Red Wings spent Monday evening steadfastly trying to come to terms with their No. 4 on defense, Brad Stuart. They reached a two-year extension with defenseman Andreas Lilja during the afternoon, avoiding his becoming an unrestricted free agent when the market opens at noon today.
