In case you missed it earlier, the Caps demoted Keith Aucoin and cut loose invitee Jakub Cutta, thus reducing the camp roster to 29 players (not including Brian Pothier). And if you take out Tyler Sloan, Simeon Varlamov and Grant McNeill - all of whom appear to be Hershey-bound - that leaves the Caps with 26 players and three cuts left to make. It's looking like Chris Bourque and Quintin Laing will...

Just yesterday, the first reader question Hockey News columnist Adam Proteau answered about the entire NHL came from a Caps fan frustrated about the lack of information about Brian Pothier's recovery from a serious concussion. Pothier missed the second half of last season and all of the playoffs, and was believed close to retirement. But one frustrated fan wanted to know for sure. You've got to love...

While I was waiting for Shaone Morrisonn to emerge from the weight room at Kettler Capitals Iceplex this afternoon, I unexpectedly bumped into defenseman Brian Pothier, who, as you know, has been pretty much invisible around here since suffering a devastating concussion in January. Pothier was interviewed by his hometown paper earlier this summer, but this was my first channce to catch up with him...

Earlier this afternoon, I interviewed GM George McPhee for a feature story I'm working on. During the course of our conversation, though, a few other items of interest came up. Here's a summary: *We kind of already knew this, but McPhee confirmed that Brian Pothier (concussion) won't resume his career anytime soon. The defenseman has, however, shown signs of improvement recently, McPhee said. *As far...

So how is Brian Pothier feeling these days? Better, but he's nowhere close to playing hockey, according to this report in his hometown newspaper. Buoyed by a surge of improvement in May, Pothier was walking 6 miles a day when temptation got the best of him. "I had a great month," he said. "Then one day, I started chasing the kids a little bit, walking the stroller a little faster, so I went jogging...

Despite the upbeat headline, the latest on Brian Pothier is neither particularly encouraging (from a hockey standpoint) nor surprising: "Running, weights and skating are a long way off for now, but Pothier is excited that his mind is strong and his body is, albeit slowly, following." And while that's good news in terms of his cognitive skills and whatnot, it's nearly gut-wrenching to read that a

I didn't manage to squeeze a whole lot of info out of GM George McPhee before yesterday's game in Philadelphia, but I figured you may be interested in what he had to say. Q: What is the status of Chris Clark and Brian Pothier? A: "We're doing what we can to get them back. We're being exhaustive with everything we do. I took a while with Eric Fehr; he saw 10 different specialists. These guys...Please...

The Caps' three-day break comes to an end at 2 p.m., when they return to the ice for practice at KCI. The big thing this week will be the status of Chris Clark (groin) and Brian Pothier (concussion). The Caps have been winning without them, but they're clearly better with their veterans in the lineup. I'll be there, so check back for the latest. Also, my chat has been bumped up to 1 p.m. A...Please...

Alexander Semin (tailbone), Tom Poti (upper body) and Brian Pothier (head) won't play in today's matinee in Montreal. That means Steve Eminger will get into the lineup for the first time since Nov. 26. Here are the forward combos: Ovechkin-Backstrom-Pettinger Fleischmann-Nylander-Kozlov Laing-Steckel-Gordon Brashear-Laich-Bradley The 'D' parings remain unknown at the moment but should be interesting;...

Defenseman Brian Pothier did not play in the third period of tonight's 2-0 loss after sustaining an upper body injury. He is day-to-day, according to the team. Although it's unclear exactly when Pothier got hurt, he was drilled along the sideboards by rugged winger Milan Lucic early in the second period. From my point over view high above the ice, it appeared that Pothier's head may have snapped back...

Thanks to a recent hot streak, Caps blueliner Brian Pothier is now on the trade rumor radar in a League starved for two-way defensemen. But with another two years and $5 million left on his current contract, even if the Caps were to fall out of contention, I'd be surprised if they would move the 30-year-old rearguard, who seems to finally be settling into his role on this team as a solid second-

Just arrived at Kettler for the morning skate and there are a couple of interesting developments: Defenseman Brian Pothier, who had been listed as week-to-week with a broken thumb, is on the ice and particpating fully in drills. He's paired with Jeff Schultz and appears to be ready to return tonight against the similarly struggling Tampa Bay Lightning after missing only a game and a half. Checking...
