You Should Know Listener is the moniker of Dan Smith, an Arkansas musician who dubs his subgenre of hip-hop "talk music." Smith, who sometimes travels with a backing band that includes his wife, puts on an enthralling live show (I can attest to this) and mixes a variety of genres. You're just as likely to hear folk guitar in his songs as you are a drum machine. Thematically, Smith's last two albums...

The Toronto Star 's BOOK EDITOR, Dan Smith, elects to eloquently and elegantly remind us : "The undeniable pride in Canada's military men and women that can be seen everywhere in this country — regardless of the legitimate debate about whether they should be fighting and dying in Afghanistan — is in some ways a return to our traditional past." In Flanders Fields IN FLANDERS FIELDS the poppies blow...

The Columbus Blue Jackets have cut twelve more players from training camp. This brings the camp down to 47 players. Erik Felde, Ryan Garlock, John Hughes, Brian McGuirk, Peter Pohl, Kirill Starkov, John Vigilante, Shane Willis, Trevor Hendrikx, Dan Smith, Jon Landry, and Ryan Mior were the men cut. None of the names surprise me, they weren’t expected to make the big club. McGuirk, Pohl, Starkov, Vigilante,...

I know I've not posted for a long time, but I thought it would be worth coming out of accidental hiatus to post this. It turns out that Dan Smith, a long time friend of mine, is fighting cancer for the second time. He went in a year ago with thyroid cancer, which they thought they had treated successfully, but it's come back in a form no one expected. You can find Dan's story here: http://cad-comic.com/news.php?i=1668#1670...
