Steve Zippy at Blue Notes in Newsday notes that the Rangers are hosting a conference call at 4:30pm ET with “deals/signings imminent.” Now this: Is it Markus Naslund? That’s what one source tells me....but no confirmation Update 4:42pm ET: From The Fourth Period: “Rangers sign Dmitri Kalinin and Markus Naslund”. Says Naslund: “Initially, there was quite a few teams contacting us. Me and my agent, I...

From Jerry Sullivan’s latest: “Dmitri Kalinin will be gone, the latest Sabre to walk with nothing coming in return.” Really? While technically true, I’m curious what he would have brought in return last season. And “They should bring in a couple of tough, veteran “D” to bolster the blue line.” [snip] “…it seems even more [...]

Among the news items that came out of the Sabres press conference with Tim Kennedy today was the announcement by Darcy Regier that Dmitri Kalinin will not be offered a contract, making him a free agent. I can’t believe there are many Sabres fans who are depressed by this news. Still, Kalinin has been a [...]

Sabres defenseman Teppo Numminen skated for nearly two hours on Friday, joining his team for the first time since January in his comeback from open-heart surgery. Numminen skated with injured defensemen Jaroslav Spacek (ribs) and Dmitri Kalinin (right shoulder) for an hour before participating in the Sabres' workout before their game Friday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs. "It's been a long journey,"...

With the impending return of defenseman Dmitri Kalinin on Wednesday night, the Sabres will finally field the team they envisioned since the beginning of the year. Even Teppo Numminen has positive news of late, and I would imagine the Sabres will see him on the ice, barring unforeseen developments, by the beginning of February. This [...]

According to WGR550, the Buffalo Sabres have added defenseman Nolan Pratt to the roster. Teppo Numminen is still recovering from his heart surgery and Dmitri Kalinin is out with a knee injury, so the team only has five healthy NHL-caliber defensemen. Andrej Sekera was called up from Rochester to fill in for five games and [...]

I heard on XM Home Ice today that the Sabres had Nolan Pratt in for tryout. This is probably a move for some depth in the absence of Dmitri Kalinin who will miss a month with a knee injury suffered in a knee-on-knee collision with Rod Brind'Amour on Wednesday night. The Sabres called up defenseman Mike Weber from Rochester but I would be surprised if he is the long term answer to the Sabres needs....
