Just tell me to stop if you're sick of hearing about former Caps. But I figured there's a bunch of folks out there who want an update on Jeff Halpern, a local favorite and former Caps captain. Halpern, as you probably know, suffered a major injury to his knee (torn ACL and MCL) while representing the USA in the world championships. He skated hard this morning, and even stayed around for some additional...

Per KK, the Lightning have claimed Matt Pettinger off of re-entry waivers. He'll join Olie Kolzig, Jeff Halpern and Jamie Heward (who was recently sent down) as former Caps in the Bolts organization, leading one to speculate that perhaps they'll place a call to Glen Hanlon once they fire Barry Melrose. By now you already know that the Caps are retiring Mike Gartner's #11 . It is odd for a number of reasons, most of which is that Tim Bergland, Bob Carpenter, Jeff Nelson, Esa Tikkanen, and Jeff Halpern have all worn the number since Gartner last did in 1989. He stood atop the Caps career scoring list for over ten years after leaving the Caps and despite being scapegoated for the Caps Playoff Failures...

The Washington Capitals will be putting number 11 out of commission. No, not for Jeff Halpern. The Caps are going to raise 11 to the roof in honor of Mike Gartner. The honor will happen on December 28th when the Caps play Toronto. According to the Caps' press release: “Capitals fans have fond memories of Mike Gartner flying down the right wing and scoring goals at the Capital Centre,” said

Last season the Tampa Bay Lightning fell apart at the seams and had a downright awful year which led to the trading of two of their top players and a significant overhaul of their roster. At the trade deadline Brad Richards was traded to the Dallas Stars for Mike Smith, Jeff Halpern and Jussi [...]

from Lightning Strikes, Jeff Halpern’s knee is responding slowly, and the center likely won’t be back in the lineup before Christmas.
