Negotiations with Joni Pitkanen didn't take long. The Canes and the restricted free agent defenseman acquired in Tuesday's trade for Erik Cole agreed to a three-year deal worth $12 million on Wednesday.

From TSN, A day after being acquired by the Carolina Hurricanes for forward Erik Cole, restricted free agent Joni Pitkanen has signed a three-year contract. The club announced on Wednesday, that the 24-year old defenceman signed a deal worth $12 million over the three seasons. I just listened to Jimmy Rutherford's press conference. Most of the questions had to do with Joni Pitkänen. How Cole took the news of the trade, how far along in the negotiations they are, how Pitkänen took the news, etc. One of the things that was revealed is that Tuomu Ruutu and Joni Pitkänen are terrific friends, aside from merely being countrymen. Their friendship should make the transition easier....
