This game was certainly not a good birthday present for the big man, Mario Lemieux. Oy. We'll get to that in a second but first, I just want to mention that FSN Pittsburgh has a series of commercials for the Penguins that involve real live penguins that are actually really cute. For instance, in one of them, the real penguins are "talking" to FSN Pittsburgh reporter Dan Potash. (We need to find them...

Great offensive performers in the NHL often come in pairs; think Wayne Gretzky & Jari Kurri, or Mario Lemieux & Jaromir Jagr. When it comes to today’s prominent goal-scorers, however, which ones are the most dependent on a particular playmaker to set them up? To answer that question, I dug through the goal-scoring details from the 2007-8 season and took a look at the leading snipers, to answer the...

1988 ruled. When else would you be able to see Mario Lemieux, Tony Fernandez AND Bea Arthur in a commercial together? They really don't make PSAs like they used to. I'm just shocked that Mario and Tony were both taller than Bea Arthur. The only Bea Arthur reference I have is from my years of watching Golden Girls (great stuff) with my grandma back in the day, and I woulda just guessed that

So Sidney Crosby is still living with Mario Lemieux (and Lemieux's family). Far be it for me to judge, but isn't he getting a little old to be living with his boss? Another year or two of that and he'll be like Chris Elliott in the wonderful GET A LIFE . Actually, I'd love to see a remake of THE ODD COUPLE with Crosby and Lemieux. I'm assuming one of them is really neat and one of them is really messy....

I want to start with some great news: as of this morning, good Friend of The Show and penguin mama Stephanie S. has reported that sales of the Roaming Penguins have netted $165 (actual cash in hand) for the Mario Lemieux Foundation! There are still more orders, so that number will go up. We'll keep you posted! So, I left you on Friday with a teaser about big news regarding the Roaming Penguins. I had...

I have to comment on the letters the Trib published from all of your "good doers" who have never used negotiation tactics such as Mario Lemieux did to get public funding for the new arena ("Roughing up Mario," Letters, Aug. 20 and PghTrib.com).

Mario Lemieux's comments were very troubling indeed.

At Thursday's groundbreaking ceremony for the new Pens arena, your boy Mario Lemieux stated that the Pens were never serious about leaving Pittsburgh. To quote, presumably in that crazy French-Canadian accent: We had to do a few things to put pressure on the city and the state, but our goal was to remain here in [...]

We all should feel a lot dirtier, sadder and snookered this Sunday. And it's all because of comments made by Mario Lemieux, the great hockey player/owner who "saved" the Penguins for Pittsburgh.

The best way to get a free meal is to just visit potential new homes for the Penguins. Just ask Mario Lemieux. In the Pittsburgh Tribune-Review, Lemieux revealed that it was never a possibility in his mind that the Penguins would leave Pittsburgh. In order to pressure the city into funding and building a new [...]

Some Penguins fans today said they were unhappy that team owner Mario Lemieux duped them -- and public officials -- into thinking he was going to move the team from Pittsburgh if he didn't get a new arena.

Even if Penguins owner Mario Lemieux never intended to take the team out of town, business executives today said they could hardly blame him for using that threat as a tactic.
