Whoa! Hey, baby. I'd like to get to know this chick better. My number is (724) 95... While I'm hittin' on my future wife, take the time to read these links: Here's one person opposed to the Cooke-y Monster nickname for Matt Cooke. Barring injury, at some time in early October, Matt Cooke will join Rico Fata as the only players to have played at least one NHL game with each of Alexander Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby (Fata played with the 2004 and 2005 number one draft picks during the 2005-06 season). Narrowly missing joining this exclusive club was Kris Beech, who played five games for Pittsburgh this past season, four of

Earlier today, I linked to G5H's Matt Cooke man-love, including the new Cooke-y Monster Facebook page. The signing came over the weekend, when most bloggers take time off and, you know, do things not involving a computer. I didn't update on this deal, which Faceoff Factor lists at 2 years, $2.4 mil. Today, I decided to put my sportsblogger research skillz (Google news-trolling,

Matt Cooke signed a two year deal worth $2.4 million with the Pens on Saturday. He took a pay cut to come to Pittsburgh. This is the guy that many people thought the Pens should go after a few years back when they got Jarkko Ruutu . Cooke is, by all accounts, faster than Ruutu . He can also chip in offensively more than Ruutu did. Cooke will score 10-15 goals and won't kill you with penalty minutes,...

No surprise that Brooks Laich and Shaone Morrisonn have opted for an arbitrator. And if you were curious, Matt Cooke becomes a Penguin. Since the Pens already lost a agitator they needed to get one in return. Cooke now is the enemy. But with a sweet face.

from Empty Netters, The Penguins have signed Capitals agitator Matt Cooke to a two-year deal. Cooke is an agiator in the mold of Sean Avery, Jarkko Ruutu or Steve Ott. In addition to that “skill” he’s also a fairly decent penalty killer. continued

I've got several updates from a conversation I just had with General Manager George McPhee. *Left wing Matt Cooke, as expected, will not be returning to Washington. The signing of Matt Bradley made Cooke expendable/redundant. "Obviously, Matt Bradley has been with us longer and was committed to us," McPhee said. "You can't keep everybody." *McPhee and lead contract negotiator Don Fishman continue to...

The hockey world was saddened to hear the news of Luc Bourdon. A Vancouver Canuck defenseman that was killed on his motorcycle in Northern New Brunswick. A budding d-man on his way up, Bourdon had a bright future in the NHL. He was a teammate of both Matt Cooke in Vancouver and recently signed Karl Alzner for team Canada under 18. Bourdon was regarded so highly that the Canucks refused to

Matt Bradley signed his 3 year, $3 million contract today. What could that mean for another tough guy on the free agency, Matt Cooke? Cooke could be looking for some dough (why shouldn't he, he's earned the right) and could be looking elsewhere for it. Looking at who needed to be resigned this off season, I always thought it would be a decision on who you would keep between Bradley and Cooke.
