A few media hits to pass along - first off, George McPhee on Toronto's The FAN 590 from earlier today. Second (and third), Mike Green and Shaone Morrisonn were up at ESPN Zone Baltimore on Wednesday, and WNST caught up with the duo for a couple of quick interviews:

I mentioned it earlier, but here's a look at ESPN.com's "New Classic: The Catalyst" (a.k.a. Mike Green): Click image to enlarge To understand the magnitude (perhaps silliness, truth be told) of Pierre LeBrun's comparison, take a look at Paul Coffey's career numbers. Positively staggering. There's simply no way to put into context something like the fact that in 1985-86, Coffey had 48 goals, 90

ESPN.com's experts are already cobbling together their Canadian and American rosters for the 2010 Olympics, and Scott Burnside has put a Cap on each team: Chris Clark [Team USA] Captain of the Washington Capitals had 30 goals two seasons ago and will go through a wall for you. Mike Green Led all NHL defensemen with 18 goals last season and skates like the wind. Surely there's room on this squad

At the top of yesterday's, um, star-studded NHL media conference call, Pierre McGuire offered high praise for a certain Caps blueliner when talking about this coming season: "I think my breakout monster on defense will be Mike Green of the Washington Capitals. I think Mike Green is poised to really have an electrifying year and quite frankly I think Mike Green will be the leading point getter for

With most of the Caps' stars in tonight's lineup, the Caps improved to 4-0 in the preseason by hanging on for a 3-2 victory in New Jersey. Some news and notes: *Mike Green, Boyd Gordon and Alex Ovechkin scored while Michael Nylander had a pair of primary assists. The Devils rallied on third period goals by Zach Parise and Petr Vrana -- both against Jose Theodore -- but couldn't complete the comeback....

Last night, three players -- Alex Ovechkin, Alexander Semin and Mike Green -- made surprise appearances on the Caps' penalty kill unit. Today, Bruce Boudreau said he was just experimenting with Ovechkin and Green. But Semin, well, he might actually see some time on the PK during the regular season. Against the Hurricanes, Semin got 4:13 of shorthanded ice time, which was more than he received in a...

Here's something I probably never expected to type - check out this Mike Green interview from CNN (and notice how not once does he say "I'll try to find you some and I'll bring them to ya"):

Dump d-dump dump... Dump! A round of links on me today: Please make sure Mike Green never sees this.... See you guys out at Piney Orchard this afternoon'... Alex Ovechkin was named D.C. Sportsman of the Year, narrowly edging out Matt Chico.... It probably cost more to insure AO for three weeks at Worlds last spring than to pay John Erskine's salary for an entire season.... Hugs in Finland!...

Inside the Penalty Box has an interview with Mike Green in which the young blueliner expounds upon (among other things) how his burgeoning wealth has changed his life: "Well, I have a quad and a Sea-doo that made the summer a lot funner." Funner, sure, but hopefully the funnest summer is yet to come.

Rod Oracheski of 411mania recently interviewed Mke Green of the Washington Capitals… RO: Now that the Capitals surpassed some external expectations by reaching the playoffs last year, what is the feeling around the team going into next year? How close do you believe you guys are to contending for the Stanley Cup? MG: Well, just getting off to a good start. Last year we had to fight so hard to even...

There will be a lot of eyes focused on the nets this year -- not the ones into which Alex Ovechkin, Mike Green, and Alexander Semin are shooting pucks, but the one defended by Jose Theodore. His is not an enviable position, taking over for as close to a sports icon as hockey has ever produced in the Washington community -- Olaf Kolzig. No pressure, eh? Well, this got us to thinking about goaltenders...
