Whatever chances the Islanders have at success this season rest on the shoulders - and more important, the surgically repaired hips and knee - of Rick DiPietro. That's why yesterday was perhaps the most important day thus far of the team's...

It was a simple morning skate, but Rick DiPietro's first day back in goal after six months in rehab for hip surgery and arthroscopic knee surgery felt so much bigger to him. For a week already, he'd been seeing pucks flying toward him in his dreams. So when he stopped the first series of shots he faced in warm-ups, DiPietro exulted, "I've still got it!"

MONCTON, New Brunswick - The Islanders' season opener is just 19 days away, but when training camp opened early yesterday morning at the CN Sportplexe, franchise goaltender Rick DiPietro was working by himself with goalie coach Sudarshan Maharaj on what could have been called the "rehab rink." The only other player sharing that space was center Mike Sillinger, who is coming off hip surgery.

It's not a good sign that three of their most important players are coming off serious surgeries: Rick DiPietro, Billy Guerin and Mike Sillinger. But that's nothing new. We already knew that. What we didn't know until a few days...

Yesterday, I posted a hypothetical 2008 Canadian Olympic Hockey Team. Today, I will do the same for the Americans. This is the team of players who I would chose to represent USA if there was an Olympic hockey tournament right now: Goaltenders Rick DiPietro New York Islanders Ryan Miller Buffalo Sabres Tim Thomas Boston Bruins Defence Keith Ballard Florida Panthers Mike Komisarek Montreal

Islanders’ goalie Rick DiPietro attended The Great American Bash at Nassau Colliseum this past weekend. “I’m a huge wrestling fan, so I had to come down. I’m looking forward to seeing a lot of good matches,” said DiPietro, a 2008 NHL All-Star. “I have a lot of admiration for what they do. It’s a lot harder than what we do. Hockey and sports-entertainment are both strenuous on your body, but with WWE...

Larry Brook’s account of the circumstances leading to the dismissal of Ted Nolan sounds awfully familiar. Once again, I'm forced to bring non-hockey into this blog. I mean, I could write about how the Bolts have signed The Horseman to a life-long contract ala Rick DiPietro. I could write about the drama surrounding Brian Burke and Kevin Lowe. I could write about the drama with "Boots" Del Baggio. I could even write about the Carolina Hurricanes prospects camp that just happened. I won't. Today, I'm gonna...

Killing time in the off season is going well! Thanks so much for everyone voting. As feared the goalie contest has come down to Rick DiPietro vs. Carey Price. Choose wisely hahahaaa Defense round 2 is also up so you can head on over my way and cast your votes. Believe me, it's as much fun seeing how y'all vote as figuring out who's winning. Huge thanks for voting!

On a day when All-Star goaltender Rick DiPietro had a minor knee operation, Islanders coach Ted Nolan yesterday expressed his regret about the loss of backup goaltender Wade Dubielewicz to free agency. Nolan took issue with a recent statement by general manager Garth Snow suggesting the coaching staff "lost confidence" in Dubielewicz at the start of last season because of his poor condition.
