According to TSN.ca, NHL representatives and players met in Toronto on Wednesday and talked about eliminating some of the extra padding goalies wear. Steve Yzerman represented the Red Wings at the meeting, and there was general agreement that padding should protect goaltenders, not help them stop shots from the opposing team.

Steve Yzerman stayed upstairs in the Wings' executive guest suite at Mellon Arena. Ilitch and Holland begged him to join the ensuing celebration on the ice, but the former captain-turned-team vice president declined. "It's their opportunity to get all the attention," he said. It was commendable. It was classy.
