Mattieu Carle of the Canadiens was hit by the Wings Tomas Kopecky and was taken to the hospital for observation. You can see the hit at RDS. Nick Lidstrom was also taken to the hospital after taking a puck to the face. Reports are he went for stitches and an xray.

Montreal defenseman Mathieu Carle was carried off the ice on a stretcher after being hit by Detroit's Tomas Kopecky during an exhibition game Wednesday night. Tomas Kopecky's vacation is coming to an end Friday. That's when he's due to go to the airport to pick up newest Red Wings forward Marian Hossa, a compatriot of Kopecky's from Slovakia. The two recently finished up a summer of skating, working out and lunching together to the point that Kopecky joked they needed some time apart.

Dominik Hasek made 18 saves, and the tight-checking Red Wings suffocated Marian Gaborik in a 4-1 victory over the Wild on Saturday night. CHICAGO -- In the last two games in which he has played, forward Tomas Kopecky has responded with the sort of performances that are going to make him an NHL regular. During Sunday's 3-2 loss to the Blackhawks at the United Center, Kopecky set up a goal by Jiri Hudler and fought Patrick Sharp.

The recent solid performances of Tomas Kopecky, Matt Ellis and Aaron Downey will only make it harder for this week's newcomer to join the Red Wings' rotation. Igor Grigorenko, who didn't gain a point in a five-game stint with Grand Rapids, is expected to join practice today. His first shot at a game comes Wednesday, when the Wings host Vancouver.
