Do my eyes deceive me, or did the Islanders gut out a win in a well-played, well-fought contest with the visiting Flyers? Did they really outshoot Philadelphia 47 (a season high) to 29? Did up-and-down Ruslan Fedotenko, industrious Sean Bergenheim, and steady Trent Hunter really key the win by creating the much-sought “secondary scoring” that was [...]

By the most obvious standards, Trent Hunter wouldn't seem to merit the best grades. His seven goals in 46 games aren't spectacular and his minus-12 rating is second worst on the team. Then again, looking deeper, coach Ted Nolan last night gave Hunter an "A."

First, many good things from the Islanders’ shootout win in Calgary: Good to see strugglers Trent Hunter, Ruslan Fedotenko, and banged-up Mike Sillinger pot goals. Also good to see Richard Park with another clutch, game-winning finish. And good to see the Islanders get by while missing not only Radek Martinek but also defensive warrior Brendan Witt [...]

Rick DiPietro turned aside 28 shots for his 12th career shutout and added an assist to help the New York Islanders beat the Tampa Bay Lightning 4-0 on Thursday night. The Lightning got 28 saves...
