The gloom was palpable. Seven days of the Olympics and not a single Canuck on the podium, not even Trevor Linden. Lots of mettle, but no medals. Even VANOC's perennially chipper boss John Furlong was feeling the pinch.

Canucks Jersey Retro Linden - Back Originally uploaded by Jeffery Simpson Trevor Linden never won the Stanley Cup, never won a scoring title and is behind Marcus Naslund as the team’s all time scoring leader and yet I think everyone in Vancouver will agree that he is the greatest player the Canucks ever had. Maybe the seven points in 28 games that he had for the Caps back in 2001 left a bad taste in my mouth, but forgive me for not joining in the Trevor Linden Retirement Lovefest. Don't get me wrong, I don't begrudge Canucks fans (and Western Canadians generally) one bit for feeling a sadness today as the face of the franchise retires. But here's a guy who hasn't topped 41 points or scored 20 goals
