Valtteri Filppula returned to the Wings' lineup on Friday night at Joe Louis Arena after missing the first two preseason games with a jammed thumb. He had a chance to tie the game in the final minute but was denied by goaltender Tuukka Rask. The Bruins went on to win, 2-1.

Red Wings forward Valtteri Filppula and general manager Ken Holland both got what they wanted Wednesday. Filppula, 24, agreed to a five-year, $15-million contract to remain with the Wings through the 2012-13 season. The deal gives Filppula long-term security and allows the Wings to lock up a young forward with talent they hope only continues to grow.
