Getting Ready For Russian Heritage Night

Alex Ovechkin, Alex Semin, Sergei Fedorov and Viktor Kozlov will be warmly received when they hit Hollywood on Thursday night as the Kings host Russian Heritage Night at Staples Center. Catching up with three of the Capital comrades this afternoon was LAKings.com's Heidi Androl. Have a look: H/t Kukla's Korner

Why Boyd?

There is a lot of knashing of teeth this morning about the selection of Boyd Gordon to take the decisive -- and ultimately unsuccessful -- Gimmick shot in last night's 6-5 loss to the Devils. Fair question. Viktor Kozlov and Alex Ovechkin had already tried and failed, and the Caps didn't have, say, a Sergei Fedorov available to use his vast store of experience in that situation. Alexander Semin, with...

Johnson To Start; Kozlov Returns

After missing last game with an undisclosed injury, right wing Viktor Kozlov will be back in the lineup tonight, Coach Bruce Boudreau said after the morning skate at RBC Center. Boudreau wouldn't say which forward will be forced out of the lineup, but Eric Fehr, who got his first goal of the season against Tampa Bay, stayed on the ice for some extra work, which usually indicates that he'll be out....

Kozlov Out Tonight

A very quick update from KCI: Sergei Fedorov, Shaone Morrisonn and Viktor Kozlov are out tonight against Tampa Bay. Coach Bruce Boudreau said Kozlov, who was wearing an orange jersey this morning, is nursing a nagging injury (he would not be specific) and that he's still hopeful Fedorov and Morrisonn will be ready for Wednesday's game in Raleigh. Here were the lines: Ovechkin-Backstrom-Semin Fleischmann-Nylander-Clark...

What Have You Been Up Too?

Not a lot, thanks for asking. Capitals get a rare week off in many ways. This little lull has allowed the team to get in some much needed rest and healing in before their small stint on the road and a three game home stand. Viktor Kozlov and Sergei Fedorov were both absent from today's practice. Alex Ovechkin is still in Russia and his timetable to return on Sunday has not changed. Tom Poti

Morning Skate

Here's what the lines looked like in the morning skate. Viktor Kozlov, who missed four games with a knee sprain but played in Dallas, wasn't out on the ice this morning. I'll have an update on his status shortly. His absence meant Eric Fehr was skating alongside Nic Backstrom and Brooks Laich. Brent Johnson will start tonight against the Predators as expected. Forwards Laich-Backstrom-Fehr Steckel-Fedorov-Semin...

Morning Skate Update

A few quick notes from American Airlines Center: Jose Theodore will start in goal while David Steckel and Eric Fehr will be the scratches. Viktor Kozlov will return from a four game absence and skate on the top line. Defenseman John Erskine, after missing a game with a bruised calf, is also back in. More in a bit....Please click on the title to continue reading this entry.

Kozlov Close

I'm hearing right wing Viktor Kozlov (sprained left knee) is recovering a little faster than expected, and barring any setbacks, will travel with the Caps next week. The hope is that he'll be ready to get back into the lineup at some point on the Calgary-Phoenix-Dallas road trip that begins Tuesday at the Saddledome....Please click on the title to continue reading this entry.

Bourque Recalled

Injuries already have the Caps calling up some talent for Saturday's game against the Devils according to Capitals Public Relations. Chris Bourque will suit up for the Caps as Donald Brashear, Tom Poti, and Viktor Kozlov have nagging injuries that will keep them out of the line up. Because the Caps have brought up a forward, it's almost certian that Sergei Fedorov will be back on defense.

Injury Woes

As of right now, the Caps are practicing without Viktor Kozlov (knee), Donald Brashear (hand) and Tom Poti (groin) and Sergei Fedorov (rest, I'm assuming). I haven't heard about any call-ups -- yet. But the day is young....Please click on the title to continue reading this entry.

Fedorov Playing Center; Brashear Not Practicing

Injuries to Viktor Kozlov (left leg) and Donald Brashear (hand) has forced Coach Boudreau to shake up his lines, and as of this moment, here's how they look: Ovechkin-Backstrom-Clark Laich-Nylander-Semin Fleischmann-Fedorov-Fehr Steckel-Gordon-Bradley Kozlov, of course, is expected to miss two weeks. Brashear, however, is another story. He was struck on the hand with a puck Monday, but Boudreau said...

Of Russians And Hat Tricks

In his brief career so far, Alexander Ovechkin has notched five NHL hat tricks. Alex Semin has two. Their fellow countryman, Sergei Fedorov, has six, and the Caps' fourth Russian, Viktor Kozlov, has a pair. But where did the term "hat trick" come from, and why the Russian focus? Joe Pelletier (the genius behind Greatest Hockey Legends.com and a fellow J.P.) passed along this educational video

Kozlov Out With Leg Injury

via Tarik El-Bashir of Capitals Insider, Viktor Kozlov could miss two weeks with an undisclosed left leg injury, General Manager George McPhee said moments again. Kozlov appeared to injure his knee when he was hit along the boards by Rob Davison in the second period of last night’s 5-1 win over Vancouver. “We suspect it will be a couple of weeks,” McPhee said. “But we’ll know more in a couple of weeks.”...

Fedorov Back Up Front

Viktor Kozlov, Alexander Semin and Donald Brashear are not practicing today, so the lines are all over the place. Fedorov is back on up front and Fehr, obviously, is in the lineup because of Kozlov's left leg injury. Not sure what -- if anything -- is wrong with Semin and Brashear. Here's what things look like at the moment: Forwards Ovechkin-Backstrom-Clark Fleischmann-Fedorov-Fehr Laich-Nylander-Gordon...
