The NHL has suspended Dallas Stars forward Sean Avery indefinitely pending a hearing with commissioner Gary Bettman. The league says the suspension was imposed Tuesday after Avery made "inappropriate public comments, not pertaining to the game."

DENVER, Nov. 30 (UPI) -- Colorado Avalanche center Joe Sakic is out indefinitely because of a recurring back ailment, the Denver Post reported. The injury forced the 39-year-old Sakic to miss seven games after he hurt himself during a weightlifting session.
