"You can't make any excuses," said defenseman Stephane Robidas. "Good teams find a way to win, and I believe we are a good team. We simply have to find a way to win games, and I believe that way is by playing our team game, staying focused and outworking the other team. If we do that, we have the talent to win."

"It was an unfortunate incident, and not what I think you would say typifies James' game," Nieuwendyk said. "James is not a cross-the-line-type of player, and I think these are very rare incidents for him. I don't believe this is something you will see much of in his future, if ever again."

The Stars were different Thursday. Not better, just different. Playing in a fight-filled game and losing the special-teams battle in just about every way, Dallas fell 4-1 to Columbus to drop to 3-3-3 at American Airlines Center. That's not the kind of success expected from a team that entered the season with the second-best home record in the NHL since 2002. "We have to find a way to take care...

First period: In a fight-filled period, the Stars went 0-for-3 on the power play, while Columbus scored both with the man advantage and short-handed. Rick Nash pounded in a loose puck in a goal-mouth scrum for the power-play goal at 8:30. Kristian Huselius then stole the puck from Mike Ribeiro and scored short-handed on an unassisted breakaway with 0.3 seconds left in the period.
