Ben Spies led the first session of free practice at Misano for the World Superbike class, but he took his time to get there. Superpole 1 Ben Spies was fastest at the start, going out and setting two fast laps from the off. Fabrizio followed Spies example, but was forced out of 2nd by Jakub Smrz with 3 minutes left. With just a few seconds of the session left, Jamie Hacking put in a blistering lap to take provisional pole.
