Noriyuki Haga drew first blood in the battle for the World Superbike championship at Portimao, finishing ahead of title rival Ben Spies. Spies and Haga had swapped the lead through much of the session, with the Texan looking like getting the upper hand, but a great wave of competitors washed over Spies in the final minutes, demoting the American down to 7th. Jakub Smrz led the charge, setting the...

Rain lashed the beautiful surroundings of the Eifel mountains in Germany, making conditions difficult for the riders at the Nurburgring. Unsurprisingly perhaps the session was dominated by the large British contingent that packs the World Superbike paddock, with Johnny Rea, Leon Haslam and Shane Byrne leading early on. But with 15 minutes of the session left, it was Noriyuki Haga that took the lead,...

Max Biaggi was once again fastest in the second session of qualifying practice, now having topped all three sessions of practice for the Superbike class. Ben Spies was second quickest, ahead of Jakub Smrz on the Guandalini Ducati and Michel Fabrizio on the factory Ducati. Nori Haga continues to suffer, still only 18th fastest in the combined qualifying standings. Combined results of both qualifying...

The previous round of World Superbikes at Misano looked to have been a pivotal point in the season. After another dominant win in race 1, Ben Spies lost championship points he could ill afford in race 2, suffering with mechanical problems for the third time this year. For every three steps that Spies took towards Haga, mechanical problems seemed to force him two steps back. So Ben Spies arrived at...

The World Superbike circus came to Misano on Italy's Adriatic coast hoping for sun, sea and speed, but this weekend, they got plenty more than that. The heat and humidity was scorching on Friday, turning showery on Saturday, only to start with a downpour on race day. The rain had fallen heavily all morning, but as the riders headed out at noon for race 1, the rain had just about stopped and the World...

Superpole 1 Ben Spies was fastest at the start, going out and setting two fast laps from the off. Fabrizio followed Spies example, but was forced out of 2nd by Jakub Smrz with 3 minutes left. With just a few seconds of the session left, Jamie Hacking put in a blistering lap to take provisional pole. Shane Byrne crashed early, but had already set a fast enough lap to qualify, though he had to run back...
