It's shocking, I know, but as the Scots get to know The Donald and see his plans for Trump International Aberdeen , they aren't liking what they are seeing. John Hopkins uses the latest news of campaigns and unveiling of more plans for the clubhouse to again tell the Donald to scrap the project.

It's no secret that the wretched global economic crisis has taken its toll on motorcycle racing. Unfortunately, teams dropping out of series or curtailing their involvement have become distressingly commonplace. The latest casualty of this war of attrition in the WSBK paddock is reportedly the Stiggy Racing Team. Already reduced to 1 rider in superbike and supersport for the rest of the season due...

While John Hopkins thinks the prize money cut for the Race to Dubai could have been a lot worse because of Dubai's fall, Mark Reason and Lawrence Donegan sound much more suspicious about the short term future of the European Tour's big gamble, both pouncing on word that the Euro Tour does not even have a firm commitment for next year. To say that John Hopkins has had a torrid season would be the understatement of the year. First, he lost his ride in the Kawasaki MotoGP team, after the Japanese factory decided to pull out of MotoGP. He was fortunate to find a new seat alongside Leon Haslam in the Stiggy Racing Honda team in World Superbikes, but that only lasted a couple of rounds, before a huge crash at Assen saw him break his...

After Mattia Pasini was drafted in to test the Pramac Ducati MotoGP bike, on the official one-day test after the Brno MotoGP round, speculation grew that the Italian 250cc star would be given the nod to race the Pramac bike for the next two MotoGP rounds, at Indianapolis and Misano. To many people's surprise, once he gave the Desmosedici GP9 back to the Pramac mechanics, he thanked them nicely and...

Ever since the old North Loop at Assen was removed, emasculating the glorious old track, the scarcity of fast left hand corners have made those remain potentially lethal. So far, since the track was shortened prior to 2006, the MotoGP race at Assen has claimed at least one victim forced to miss a race every year: Toni Elias in 2006 and 2007, John Hopkins in 2008, and now Mika Kallio in 2009. The Finn...

The success of Ben Spies in the World Superbike series has rekindled interest in American riders, after several years where the lack of cross-fertilization between the series left World Superbike and MotoGP teams wary of signing riders from the AMA. Since Spies' arrival, whe have had a spate of riders racing as replacements and wildcards in the World Superbike series: John Hopkins took the place of...

Ben Spies led the first session of free practice at Misano for the World Superbike class, but he took his time to get there. The Ten Kate Honda riders led the way early, all three sitting atop the timesheets at the halfway mark, but Michel Fabrizio, Nori Haga and Ben Spies gradually caught up. Spies finally took top spot at the end of the session, with a couple of very fast laps. Gregorio Lavilla...

The fact that Red Bull is a huge sponsor of all types of motorsports, adventure sports and other forms of extreme sports needs no explanation. So successful has their involvement been in fact, that a host of other energy drink companies have followed their example, and motorcycle racing paddocks all around the world are now awash with sweet sticky taurine-and-caffeine-based beverages. As the original,...

Friday started out sunny and clear, but by the end of the day we had huge clouds and even some lightning in the distance. Fortunately, no rain arrived before the final session, but there is a chance of thundershowers tomorrow. Miller is set in a valley surrounded by mountains, and even in late May some snow remains on the highest spots. As the clouds gathered in the distance, the setting grew more...

The World Superbike paddock has been welcoming an increasing number of Americans this year, with several riders following where Ben Spies has led. John Hopkins ousted Roby Rolfo at Stiggy Honda earlier this year, and after Hopper suffered a serious leg injury for the second year running at Assen, he was replaced by another American, Jake Zemke at Monza. After the first corner pile up at Monza took...
